Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, September 29 (Dispatch) - The CPC Central Committee held a report meeting in Beijing on the morning of the 29th on the study of "Selected Works of Hu Jintao." Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the country, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered an important speech at the meeting. Xi Jinping stressed that during the 10 years from the 16th National Congress of the Party to the 18th National Congress of the Party, the Party Central Committee with Comrade Hu Jintao as General Secretary united and led all Party comrades and the people of all ethnic groups across the country, held high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, adhered unswervingly to the Party's basic line, deeply understood the complex and ever-changing international situation, accurately grasped the stage-specific characteristics of our country's development, firmly seized and made good use of the important period of strategic opportunity for our country's development, continuously deepened reform and opening up and accelerated the pace of development, overcame a series of major challenges on the road ahead, achieved a series of new historic achievements, laid a solid foundation for building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and advanced socialism with Chinese characteristics to a new stage of development.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the development of the cause of the Party and the people is a historical process of carrying forward the past and opening up the future. Xi Jinping stressed that the Scientific Outlook on Development is the product of combining Marxism with the realities of contemporary China and the characteristics of the times, is the concentrated expression of the Marxist worldview and methodology on development, and has raised our Party's understanding of the laws of socialism with Chinese characteristics to a new level. In accordance with the requirements of the Scientific Outlook on Development, our Party has achieved a series of theoretical results in advancing the building of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
