This is Shulou Town, Pingshan County, known as the number one town for ecological tourism and specialty tourism in the Three Gorges reservoir area.
In 2010, Yin Guanxiong, a farmer from Shulou Town, Pingshan County, Sichuan Province, who had struggled away from home for many years, returned from the city to the countryside with the ideal of starting a business back home, leading his fellow villagers to common prosperity, and repaying the hometown that bore and raised him. After many investigations and repeated research, and combining the hometown's superior ecological environment, suitable natural climate, abundant water sources, and selenium-containing soil, he introduced and planted New Zealand kiwifruit, which has suitable growing conditions and high market economic value, and founded "Sichuan Pingshan Yinshi Longyang Agricultural Development Co., Ltd.," leading the development of high-end agricultural ecological projects and fruit forest planting. After several years, Yinshi Company already had nearly ten thousand mu of kiwifruit orchards, 70,000 mu of wild fishing grounds, a specialty traditional Chinese medicine clinic, a floating flower sea on the river, and leisure farmhouse entertainment and other agricultural economic projects.
Kiwifruit contains a variety of trace elements essential to the human body and is known as the "king of fruits." During his investigations, Yin Guanxiong found that New Zealand kiwifruit was incomparable to domestic kiwifruit in terms of price, quality, nutrition, and all other aspects, which aroused his great interest. However, whether New Zealand kiwifruit could actually be planted successfully within Pingshan, China, and whether it could bear fruit and yield abundantly, Yin Guanxiong was not sure. After long-term investigation and trial planting, he finally boldly introduced and planted New Zealand kiwifruit. From July 1-3, the Youth Federation of the Ministry of Agriculture organized and carried out the themed activity "Poverty Alleviation - Youth in Agriculture, Rural Areas and Farmers in Action." A group of young cadres from the Ministry of Agriculture system rushed to Sichuan and entered Guihua Village, Shulou Town, Pingshan County, Yibin City. More than 5,000 mu of kiwifruit trees that had already borne fruit "climbed" over the entire hillside. The "Yinshi Longyang Agricultural Development Company" founded by Yin Guanxiong attracted great attention from the leaders and experts of the Ministry of Agriculture Youth Federation delegation. Yin Guanxiong, using a modern enterprise management model, from land transfer, slope field leveling, improved variety introduction, management and protection technology, to guaranteed-price recovery, made farmers feel at ease planting and happy to cooperate. Farmers invested land and labor as equity. The company first paid a guaranteed base of 5,000 yuan per mu, and the portion by which the market price exceeded the guaranteed price was distributed between the company and farmers at a ratio of 4:6, completely removing the worries of the broad masses of growers.
In order to sell the kiwifruit produced and bring tourists in, the agricultural ecological tourism supporting projects in Shulou Town are under intense construction. Recently, the China Urban and Rural Development Promotion Association of the National Academy of Governance, which is supervised by the State Council, also extended an olive branch to Yin Guanxiong, providing all-round assistance from training management talent to policy and funding support and overall planning, and designing and building hotels, restaurants, a specialty traditional Chinese medicine clinic, a leisure and wellness base, and a cultural square, among others, to add supporting facilities for Shulou Town to fully build itself into the number one town for ecological tourism and specialty tourism.
