Mango trees bear fruit of prosperity, growers reap increased income
"It rained a lot recently, which is exactly the peak period for anthracnose, so you must go to the field every day to check whether any flowers have turned black." This afternoon, in Luofeng Village, Jiyang District, Sanya, Chen Shuting, a technician from the Sanya Mango Association, was carefully inspecting the growth of mango trees in bloom in the mango grove of impoverished household Lan Xueming, guiding the impoverished household to distinguish disease symptoms.
In 2014, the annual per capita net income of Lan Xueming's family was only 2,533 yuan. Just when the family was worrying about making a living, poverty alleviation workers noticed that the fruit trees in his mango grove were bearing fruit one after another, but he was struggling to find a market.
In May this year, after learning about Lan Xueming's situation, the Sanya Mango Association took the initiative to contact him, organizing local residents and tourists to pick and buy mangoes in his grove, helping him open up sales channels and selling mangoes at a floor price of 5 yuan per jin. In less than a month, all of Lan Xueming's mangoes were sold out. Among them, more than ten mango trees were adopted by tourists at a price of 500 yuan per tree per year. "At that time, the market price of mangoes was less than 3 yuan per jin, and they had never sold at such a good price." Lan Xueming said happily.
Through the association's efforts, Lan Xueming's mango grove was also equipped with an advanced domestic integrated water and fertilizer system. After the system was completed, Lan Xueming only had to gently turn on the valve, and each fruit tree could receive precise irrigation and fertilization.
After improving the irrigation system, technicians also formulated a complete set of mango growth management plans for Lan Xueming. Through scientific cultivation, rational use of pesticides, conditioning the soil and repairing soil quality, the quality of the mangoes was improved.
"When the mangoes ripened in May this year, they brought the family an income of 23,000 yuan. Now the mango trees are blooming again, with promising growth, and next year will bring another good harvest." Lan Xueming gazed at his mango grove, his face full of joy.
