Jia Junhui: Singing the "Small Apple" Song of Prosperity

Jia Junhui, 41, is a native of Zhiping Township, Jingning County. In 1990, carrying his dreams, he left school and began looking for work. For various reasons he ran into obstacles everywhere, changing jobs one after another without ever managing to settle down. After repeated failures, he became disheartened for a time. Just when he was lost and helpless, a fellow townsman found him and invited him to develop the apple industry together.

Yet the road to entrepreneurship was not as smooth as he had imagined. Land transfer, planting fruit trees, orchard management, building management offices, finding sales channels... he had to patiently see to every task himself. At first, he and his partner successively built a 1,500-mu apple base in Huasuo Township, Baimiao Township and Xianglian Township in Kongtong District. Once there was an initial scale, responding to market demand, they jointly registered and founded Pingliang Xinsen Fruit and Vegetable Planting Co., Ltd., then invested more than 15 million yuan. On the basis of completing traditional orchard management, they introduced and built the latest modern cold storage, built an e-commerce platform, established a new dwarfing dense-planting orchard and fruit-and-vegetable picking sheds, planned an oil peony base, and also built in Baimiao the first high-tech dwarfing dense-planting galvanized steel pipe orchard base in Kongtong District. To date, the company has transferred more than 4,000 mu of land in total, absorbed 238 surplus rural laborers, and per capita annual income has reached more than 30,000 yuan.

With high-quality apples, there also had to be good sales channels. To let more people know about "Pingliang Golden Apple," his footprints covered the land of China. He approached work units, companies, supermarkets, and handed out flyers to promote his apples, hoping to open up sales channels. Jia Junhui said that at the beginning, he simply took photos of the apples from the Xinsen base to pitch to customers, but the results were poor. So he then hauled his fruit around and traveled to large supermarkets in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shenyang, Shenzhen and other places. His arduous efforts finally brought rich returns, and his apples were at last placed on the shelves of several large supermarkets in first-tier cities. Because the fruit was sweet in juice and crisp in flesh, it was once in short supply.

"Looking back to when I first started the business, I had no capital, no technology, no experience and no sales channels. Fortunately, the support of the relevant departments kept me going," Jia Junhui said. When he was at his most difficult, the Kongtong District Forestry Bureau gave him technical support, solving his urgent need. The Party committees and governments of Baimiao and Huasuo Townships successively awarded Xinsen Company honorary titles such as "Model Enterprise Supporting Local Economic Development" and "Model Enterprise Leading Convenience and Income Growth for the People," all of which gave him tremendous encouragement and help.

In the future, Jia Junhui plans to build a Kongtong green agricultural ecological demonstration park integrating fruit and vegetable planting with health and leisure. While fulfilling his own entrepreneurial dream, it can also provide employment for nearly a thousand surplus laborers in rural areas and help farmers increase their income.
