Farming Chinese sturgeon sets Liu Xiong on the road to prosperity
Liu Xiong is a post-80s college-graduate village official. In November 2013, after graduating from university, he gave up the generous salary he had in a big city. Carrying his youthful dreams and his wish to help build a new countryside, he came to Yinshui Village, Zhongshui Town, Weining Autonomous County, Guizhou, his hometown, to serve as deputy director of the village committee, becoming a college-graduate village official.
In recent years, with the help of relevant local departments, Liu Xiong raised funds on his own to establish the Weihai Aquaculture Professional Cooperative in Zhongshui Town, Weining County, to carry out large-scale farming of Chinese sturgeon. The scale has now reached more than 40,000 fish, mainly sold to Zhaotong in Yunnan, Weining in Guizhou and other areas, with annual profits of more than 10,000 yuan. This has explored a new path for driving local farmers to increase their incomes and become prosperous, and has also filled the gap of the village having no fish farm.
"At first, when we saw how young he was, we thought he would not last long in these mountain gullies, and would not be able to endure the hardship, but unexpectedly he stayed for 3 years. He truly lives up to being a university graduate, cultured and clear-headed. In just two or three years, he led the villagers to raise their incomes. He is really remarkable!" Now, as they watch his farming business flourish more and more, the villagers who once made quite a few cynical remarks all give him a thumbs-up.
