Pigeon farming fulfills the wealth dream of a post-90s young man in Yumen

While people of his age were all striving for their dreams in big cities, Duan Xuechao, a post-90s young man from Liangzigou Village, Huangzhawan Town, Yumen City, went the opposite way and returned to the countryside to start raising pigeons, and his dream of wealth grew fuller with every flap of the pigeons' wings.

I met Duan Xuechao in his pigeon shed, where rows of pigeon cages were neatly arranged, and the snow-white pigeons were plump and hopping about lively. This pigeon shed covers an area of 300 sq m and holds a total of 600 pairs of pigeons, which first brought him an income of about 50,000 yuan a year.

What inspired Duan Xuechao to raise pigeons was the CCTV program "Zhi Fu Jing" (Road to Wealth), which introduced that meat pigeons have strong adaptability and disease resistance, and that pigeon meat and pigeon eggs are highly nutritious, with very considerable market prospects. Duan Xuechao then thought that people nowadays all pay attention to health preservation and food therapy, so raising pigeons really was a good path to wealth, and he immediately decided to give up working away from home and return to his hometown to start a pigeon farming business.

Everything is hard at the beginning. After carefully investigating the market conditions, Duan Xuechao took out more than 30,000 yuan he had earned from working and introduced 200 pairs of meat pigeons from Shandong, first building a small pigeon house in his own yard. Farming techniques then became a stumbling block, so he bought books, learning while applying them, exploring and pondering. Under his careful care, a few months later the first batch of pigeons left the cages, and he earned his first pot of gold, which made him even more determined to raise meat pigeons.

Now, his farming scale has been continuously expanding, he has built a standard pigeon shed, and the meat pigeons he raises have reached more than 600 pairs, selling far to surrounding counties and cities.

Speaking of his future plans, Duan Xuechao said, "This year, my pigeon farm will still expand its scale, and I am preparing to rebuild a high-standard pigeon farm, to raise around 10,000 pairs of pigeons, and it would be even better to earn several hundred thousand to a million yuan a year."
