Peacocks bring prosperity to a poor mountain village

On November 24, Yang Junwei, a villager from Group 7 of Lijiagou Village, Meipu Town, Yunyang District, Shiyan City, Hubei Province, was feeding his peacocks. Yang Junwei is 32 years old this year. After graduating from university in 2008, he worked in many cities, but while drifting from place to place he always felt uneasy about his work. In June 2014, after doing some research, he quit his job and returned to his hometown to set up a peacock farm. He spent more than 20,000 yuan to buy 180 young peacocks. In the first year of raising blue peafowl he had no experience and quite a few died, so he summed up his experience while raising them and finally worked out a set of methods for raising blue peafowl locally. This year, after selling 40 blue peafowl at 700 yuan each and earning 28,000 yuan, he bought another 400 young peacocks. The young peacocks now in stock have already grown to half size and will be ready for market in another six months. Yang Junwei has now become a veritable peafowl-breeding expert in his local area.
