Villagers in Tongzi Town, Wulong, Chongqing escape poverty and become prosperous by raising chickens

Dou Xiaosong, a farmer from Changzheng Village, Tongzi Town, Wulong County, who graduated from primary school, has embarked on the road to escaping poverty and becoming prosperous by raising chickens. This year he raised more than 10,000 free-range chickens, with sales exceeding 500,000 yuan and a net profit of more than 80,000 yuan.

In the past, Dou Xiaosong's family relied on traditional farming and free-range livestock raising, and their standard of living hovered around the subsistence line, making it difficult to prosper. In 2015, after half a year of market research, combined with national policies, Dou Xiaosong found that the chicken-raising industry suited his path, and he also had woodland he could use.

In early 2016, he borrowed 30,000 yuan, built simple chicken coops in his own woodland, and bought back 1,000 chicks for brooding and temperature-reduction rearing, beginning his entrepreneurial journey. What to do without technical skills? Dou Xiaosong bought books on chicken-raising techniques, taught himself via mobile internet, explored experience, and threw himself wholeheartedly into the chicken farm, asking staff from the veterinary station to teach him how to give injections to the chickens and prevent and control diseases, and judging the chickens' illnesses through self-study. Ultimately, through constant exploration, Dou Xiaosong accumulated a great deal of chicken-raising experience.

After achieving success in chicken raising, he also led two villagers, Dou Qingping and Luan Chunfeng, to raise chickens and prosper together. Dou Xiaosong said: "Next year they plan to register a breeding cooperative, breed their own chicks, and mobilize more villagers to join their path to prosperity."
