Disabled young man in Guoyang earns 100,000 yuan a year growing mushrooms and transforms into a "tall, rich and handsome" success
According to a report by Bozhou Evening News, 14 years ago, although he had graduated from university, he repeatedly hit walls in employment because of his physical disability, and even starting a family was a problem. Now, his annual income exceeds 100,000 yuan, he lives in a Western-style house, drives a car, and has a happy family of four. This is not a plot from a drama, but a true story that happened to Ma Huishan from Dama Village, Chengxi Subdistrict, Guoyang County. What turned his life upside down was rows upon rows of mushrooms. A few days ago, the reporter walked into his mushroom greenhouse to listen to his story of getting rich from mushrooms.

On the afternoon of November 30, bursts of laughter and chatter came from a mushroom greenhouse in Madazhuang, Chengxi Subdistrict, Guoyang County. Inside the greenhouse, several citizens picking mushrooms held plastic bags, chatting about the quality of the mushrooms as they picked. Mushrooms emerging one after another from the fungal bags, like flowers, clustered together and were deeply endearing. Ma Huishan, the owner of the mushroom greenhouse, stood nearby constantly giving guidance to the pickers.
"Some mushrooms, after being heated, grow faster and are already ready for market, and the spawn we cultivated has also begun to be sold." Ma Huishan said that the real peak picking season for mushrooms should be in the twelfth lunar month. In order to let citizens eat fresh mushrooms in advance, he used growth-control methods to bring part of the mushrooms to market early, while most of the mushrooms must wait until around the Spring Festival to be sold, because at that time they can fetch a high price.
Ma Huishan told the reporter that the current wholesale price of mushrooms is 3 yuan per jin. This year he built a total of 5 mushroom greenhouses, and the annual net profit is more than 100,000 yuan. Now, having become rich by growing mushrooms, he already lives in a Western-style house and drives a car, and has become a well-known rich man in the village.
When talking about his entrepreneurial path, Ma Huishan felt somewhat bitter. In 1998, Ma Huishan was admitted to Fuyang Agricultural School with excellent grades, becoming the first "scholar" in the village. Because he suffered from polio in childhood and had no money for treatment, it left him with a disability and a bumpy walk, and later he repeatedly hit walls in employment. Helpless, Ma Huishan resolved to use his professional strengths and start his own business. In 2006, his first edible mushroom greenhouse came into being, and that year the mushroom greenhouse brought him an income of more than 8,000 yuan. From then on, he devoted himself to studying cultivation techniques and continuously expanded the scale, and his reputation gradually spread in the village.
