Green-shell laying hen farming boosts villagers' income and helps them prosper
Feng Yuqin, a villager from Kuokesu Village, joined the cooperative this year. The cooperative provided her family with 80 green-shell laying hens, and now she earns more than 3,000 yuan a month just from selling eggs.
When it comes to eggs, most people think of white ones. But have you ever tried a green-shell egg? In Kuokesu Village, Kuokesu Township, Tekes County, there is a Qinfen Green-shell Laying Hen Farming Cooperative that raises and sells "green eggs." The cooperative not only uses e-commerce platforms to sell "green eggs" across the country, but also helps local farmers get rich together by expanding the scale of the cooperative.
On December 7, Qi Wen, chairman of the cooperative, told reporters that in 2009, he and a friend accidentally saw online that farmers in Lianyungang were raising green-shell laying hens with considerable profits. Because raising ordinary laying hens had low profits at the time and the market was already becoming saturated, he and his friend discussed it and concluded that if they raised this kind of chicken locally, the market potential should be great. So they went to Lianyungang to investigate. Considering that they had no experience raising this kind of chicken, they temporarily ordered 800 chicks and brought them back to Xinjiang. Today, the scale of their green-shell laying hen farming has become quite considerable.
It is understood that the "green eggs" laid by green-shell laying hens can sell for 2 to 2.3 yuan each on the market. This chicken is a type of silkie, with fragrant and delicious meat and high nutritional value. It is called a "medicinal chicken" and one can sell for more than 50 yuan.
At the beginning, when Qi Wen and his partners displayed the "green eggs" at the market, everyone was very curious. Because the "green eggs" were priced high, many people were deterred. To show the advantages of "green eggs" and open up sales channels, Qi Wen and his partners raised these 800 chickens free-range, took photos of the rearing process, and then promoted them to supermarkets and hotels. After some time, Qi Wen's "green eggs" became popular with many people, and many hotels and supermarkets began to place orders for their "green eggs," often with demand exceeding supply.
"The 'green eggs' laid by 800 chickens could not meet market demand, so we purchased more than 1,000 more chickens from the mainland," Qi Wen said. After several years of development, their number of green-shell laying hens has now reached 20,000. In order to motivate other farmers in the village and sell "green eggs" to more distant places, Qi Wen and his partners established the Qinfen Green-shell Laying Hen Farming Cooperative in the township.
"'Qinfen' means diligence. It is meant to remind villagers on the road to starting businesses and becoming rich that they must always be diligent, and only through diligence can they live a good life," Qi Wen said. At present, 36 households in the village have become members. To increase farmers' enthusiasm for raising green-shell laying hens, the cooperative provides unified technical training, and farmers' eggs are sold uniformly by the cooperative, reducing farmers' risks. In this year alone, the cooperative's sales reached 2 million yuan.

The reporter learned from the county's rural e-commerce service center that in order to expand sales channels for "green eggs," the county's rural e-commerce service center signed an online sales agreement this year with the Qinfen Green-shell Laying Hen Farming Cooperative. Combining the county's culture, regional characteristics, historical factors and more, the county's rural e-commerce service center positioned and packaged the green-shell egg brand of the Qinfen Green-shell Laying Hen Farming Cooperative, explored selling points, and sold them uniformly online.
