How much does a Xiasi Dog cost?

The Xiasi Dog, also known as the White Dragon Dog, is named after its central breeding area in Xiasi Town, Majiang County, Guizhou Province. The Miao people living in Xiasi Town have had a tradition of keeping dogs and hunting since ancient times, and the breed was developed through long-term selective breeding by the Miao people. It has a large head, a broad flat forehead, a wide nose and neck, thin upright ears, and stiff hairs standing upright on its face like needles, making it look intimidating. Let us take a look below at how much a Xiasi Dog costs!

How much does a Xiasi Dog cost?

The price of the Xiasi Dog is relatively cheap compared to other famous breeds. Even top-quality puppies do not exceed 1500 yuan each, and generally purebred puppies do not exceed 1000 yuan each, usually costing around a few hundred yuan each. The Xiasi is a dog breed unique to China. It is known for being loyal to its owner, having a keen sense of smell, strong explosive power, good endurance, strong hunting ability, strong adaptability and tolerance of coarse feed, and has been listed among the world's famous dogs and China's famous hunting dogs. After systematic intensive training, it can become a police dog.

The hunting nature of the Xiasi Dog

The origin of the Xiasi Dog breed cannot be verified. In the early days, it was mainly used by village households in mountain strongholds for hunting and guarding the home. After the 1990s, it was mainly used for hunting by making use of the dog's characteristics. Because the Xiasi Dog is agile and intelligent, all-round in hunting, gentle and loyal to its owner, and uncompromising toward outside intruders, its most prominent characteristic is its hunting nature. It is very attuned to people and can act by observing its owner's intentions. It has a good sense of teamwork, knows how to cooperate with its owner, and is fierce toward strangers or prey, earning it the reputation of an all-around master among hunting dogs.

Physical characteristics of the Xiasi Dog

The Xiasi Dog has a fierce appearance, a large head, a broad flat forehead, a wide nose, a square and even mouth, and a deep round chest, with a rat tail (an upright tail with the tip pointing upward). Its limbs are strong, its paw pads are thick, its toes are moderately curved like hooks, and the spaces between the toes are spread out, making it good at running. Its coat color is snow white and the hair quality is coarse and stiff. The eye rims, nose and tongue are pink, the ear leather is thin and upright, and the eyes are spirited. What stands out especially is the stiff hair standing upright on the face and muzzle, like needles.

Identification and selection of the Xiasi Dog

1. Body: Try to choose a Xiasi Dog whose body length is greater than its height. The waist should be slender, the front chest should be broad, and the muscles well developed. When choosing a dog, grab the dog's fur and skin; it should not be too loose. The best quality is when the skin is tight against the flesh but the dog is not thin. The bones and skeleton should be strong and well proportioned, with a large bone mass. The thoracic skeleton should be broad, and the leg bones should be thick and strong.

2. Limbs: The limbs should be long and slender, and the toes should be tightly closed, which is the so-called garlic-clove hoof. When running, it should appear extremely light, with the toes touching the ground and rising again like a dragonfly skimming the water. When viewed from the front, the standing posture of the front legs should resemble an arch; they should not be too close together or too far apart. If too close, it cannot pounce on prey; if too far apart, it cannot run fast. The hind legs should be the same, but should be slightly closer together than the front legs and should lean slightly forward.

3. Teeth: For puppies over 2 months old, the teeth are basically already as white as jade, and there must absolutely be no flesh-red tooth tips or tooth roots. In particular, the canine teeth should be sharp and slender. Generally, a Xiasi Dog has two upper canine teeth on each side and one lower canine tooth on each side. When the mouth is open, the canine teeth are upright and slightly curved inward, and when biting, they meet in an uneven flat bite.

4. Tongue: The Xiasi Dog relies on its tongue to dissipate heat. The larger the tongue, the faster it dissipates heat. When the dog has exercised and the tongue extends outward, the larger and longer the exposed part, the stronger the dog's endurance and drought resistance. There is a type of dog with blue patches on the tongue, called a flower tongue, which is top quality. According to the experience of the older generation, a flower tongue means strong disease resistance, even to the point of not fearing rabies. The next best is a bright red large round tongue.

5. Mouth and nose: The shorter and wider the mouth, the better, but it must be slightly pointed. When the mouth is closed, the upper lip and lower lip should close tightly together, or the upper lip should cover the lower lip, and the inner lip flesh should be bright red. Note that the mouth must be slightly pointed and cannot be a flat, straight square mouth. Although a mouth that is too short and too flat has a strong bite force, its hit accuracy is not high. Only a short and pointed mouth bites wherever it aims, with extremely high accuracy and also strong bite force. For tracking, choose a red nose; for head hunting, choose a black mouth and black nose.

6. Eyes: The eyes should be slightly sunken and triangular in shape, with the eye corners drawn out very long, and the gaze should be sharp. Only this kind of dog is naturally independent and fierce, unafraid of trouble, and extremely brave in battle. The eyes must absolutely not be too round or too protruding; this kind of dog is not fierce and is timid.

7. Ears: The base of the ears should be high, and the ears should be small and upright so that hearing is keen. Of course, in some places most Xiasi Dogs have large drooping ears, so in that case try to choose a semi-upright ear with a high ear position.

8. Tail: Choose one whose tail is held high, preferably carried over the back, and that never droops no matter what danger it encounters. This kind of dog is bold and fierce.

9. Head and face: The overall impression given by the dog's head and face does not necessarily have to be dignified, but it must be fierce. There should be a deep and long groove in the center of the forehead, the so-called nao road. The longer the better, preferably extending from the tip of the nose all the way to the back of the head. This kind of dog has a keen sense of smell.
