How much do beef cattle cost?

Beef cattle have the characteristics of a full body, fast weight gain, high feed utilization, good meat production performance and good meat taste. They not only provide people with meat products, but also provide people with other non-staple foods. They have very broad breeding prospects. Because the breeds are different, market prices also differ. Let us take a look at the market prices of beef cattle below!

How much do beef cattle cost?

Beef cattle of different breeds, sizes and growth-frame types have different prices. Breeds include Luxi yellow cattle, Charolais cattle, Limousin cattle, Charolais cattle and so on. Prices range from 2800 to more than 7000 per head, and the specific price also depends on the breed and quality of the cattle.

How to select beef cattle

1. Look at the oral cavity: healthy cattle have pale red oral mucosa, normal body temperature and no bad odor. Sick cattle have pale white oral mucosa and drool, or the mucosa is flushed, dry and rough, with a foul odor.

2. Look at the tongue: healthy cattle have a smooth, red and glossy tongue that extends and retracts powerfully. Sick cattle have an inflexible tongue, and the tongue coating is thick, rough and lusterless, mostly yellow, white or brown.

3. Look at the eyes: healthy cattle have bright eyes, a piercing gaze, keen vision and quick reactions. Sick cattle have dull eyes and slow reactions.

4. Look at the nose mirror: healthy cattle have sweat beads on the nose mirror, evenly distributed. Sick cattle have no sweat on the nose mirror, which is dry and crusted, and in severe cases has cracked patterns.

5. Look at the ears: healthy cattle flap both ears flexibly, shake them from time to time, and feel warm to the touch. Sick cattle hold their heads low with drooping ears, do not shake their ears, and the base of the ears is either cold or hot.

Main breeds of beef cattle

1. Simmental cattle: Simmental cattle originated in Switzerland. They are not a pure meat-type cattle, but a dual-purpose dairy and beef breed. However, because Simmental cattle have high milk production, their meat production performance is not inferior to that of specialized beef cattle breeds, and their draft performance is also very good. They are a large dual-purpose breed for milk, meat and draft. Their growth rate is relatively fast, with an average daily gain of more than 1.35-1.45 kg, similar to that of other large meat-type breeds. The carcass has more meat, less fat and even fat distribution. After fattening, the dressing percentage of bulls can reach about 65%.

2. Charolais cattle: Charolais cattle originated in the Charolais and Nivernais regions from west-central to southeastern France. They are a world-famous large beef cattle breed. Since their development, they have been widely welcomed by the international market for their fast growth, large meat yield, large body size and tolerance of extensive management, and have long been exported to many countries around the world. Under good feeding conditions, a 6-month-old male calf can reach 250 kg, a female calf 210 kg, and the daily gain can reach 1400 grams.

3. Limousin cattle: Limousin cattle originated on the Limousin Plateau in central France, and are named after it. In France, they are mainly distributed across the vast areas of the central and southern regions, with numbers second only to Charolais cattle. After being developed, they were introduced to European and American countries in the early 1970s. Today, this cattle breed is distributed in many countries around the world, and it is a specialized large beef cattle breed. In 1974 and 1993, China introduced Limousin cattle from France several times, improving local yellow cattle in Henan, Shandong, Inner Mongolia and other places.

4. Luxi yellow cattle: Luxi yellow cattle are famous for their large body, stable genetic performance, strong draft power, tolerance of coarse feed, ease of management, dry and elastic skin, and dual-purpose draft and meat use. They have a tall body, well-developed forequarters, developed muscles, a sturdy constitution, a well-proportioned structure, strong adaptability, thin skin and a relatively high meat yield. The meat is fresh and tender, with fat evenly distributed among the muscle fibers, forming obvious marbling, and they have the reputation of “five-flower three-layer meat.” They are one of the world's famous beef-type cattle breeds.

5. Three-way crossbred cattle: Three-way crossbred cattle mainly include Xiliben (Simmental * Limousin * local cattle), Xialiben (Charolais * Limousin * local cattle), Lixiben (Limousin * Simmental * local cattle), and second-generation Limousin cross (Limousin * Limousin * local cattle), among others. Among them, Xiliben has the largest body size, and Xialiben has the fastest growth rate.
