General News 0 views
What Is the Price of Orchids?

Orchids are one of China's top ten famous flowers, and together with "plum, bamboo, and chrysanthemum" they are known as the "Four Gentlemen." They have a cultivation history of more than one thousand years in China. Their market price is determined by their quality, and it often fluctuates greatly due to various factors. Let's take a look below at exactly how much orchids cost!

How Much Do Orchids Cost?

There is no way to answer how much orchids cost, because different orchid varieties have vastly different prices. Ordinary orchids are very cheap; a few yuan can buy quite a lot. In fact, wild-collected orchids are sold by the bag, while high-quality orchids are sold by the seedling, and a single seedling can even sell for tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of yuan.

The Most Expensive Orchid in the World

On the morning of March 20, 2010, before the display stand of the Asia Pacific Orchid Conference, Yunnan-produced "Suguan Heding" drew quite a few curious local residents, who kept discussing its value. According to staff, "Suguan Heding" had failed to take the top gold award at the orchid expo for five consecutive years, yet its fame was great. In 2009, a buyer offered ten million, and "the owner was still not willing to sell!" Composed of four Lianban orchid seedlings, "Suguan Heding" is extremely rare on the market and belongs to the "rare treasures" among orchid categories. The Lianban orchid "Suguan Heding" is the treasured centerpiece of the Dangshan Zhou Orchid Garden in Dali, Yunnan.

How Orchid Prices Are Determined

1. Pricing by petal: Whether the petal type is good is an important measure for judging an orchid's grade. Plum petals, lotus petals, and narcissus petals have always been recognized petal-type flowers, and the prices of these orchids are several times, even dozens of times, higher than ordinary bamboo-leaf-petal orchids.

2. Pricing by fragrance: Orchids have such laudatory titles as "ancestor of fragrance," "king's fragrance," and "the finest fragrance under heaven." Orchid fragrance is another important basis for judging an orchid's grade. Among flowers of the same petal type, the fragrant ones command a higher price, and if fragrance and form can be united in one, it is a fine specimen.

4. Pricing by color: Orchids come in pure white, peach red, bright red, purple red, white-green, emerald green, dark green, golden yellow, cream yellow, purple black, and more. Generally speaking, dazzling bright red has the highest price, followed in order by yellow, white, purple, and so on.

5. Pricing by rarity: The more unusual the orchid's flowers and leaves, the higher the grade, especially those orchids that are strangely beautiful, enticingly beautiful, and charmingly unusual, possessing obvious aesthetic characteristics and reaching a relatively high ornamental value. In trading, they can create substantial wealth.

6. Pricing by quantity: Things are precious when rare, and this also applies to orchids. For a good orchid variety, when the quantity is large and the cultivation range is wide, and everyone has one, it will inevitably affect the trading price. A rare variety with a small quantity and in a state of short supply will naturally have a higher price.

7. Pricing by form: Orchids emphasize the unity of spirit, leaf posture, flower posture, and color, with overall coordination. A variety excellent in form, fragrance, color, and charm must be deeply loved by the broad community of orchid enthusiasts.

8. Pricing by species: Orchids have many varieties, and the same petal type has different prices because of different species. For example, lotus-petal and Doudou orchids may usually trade for only a few thousand yuan per plant, while the price of Chunjiang and Lianban orchids is several times higher than that of Doudou orchids. The price of the same variety also varies greatly across different regions. For example, a lotus-petal Huilan (Huoshao orchid) may trade for a few thousand yuan per plant in Yunnan, while in the Zhejiang area it may take 10,000 to 20,000 yuan per plant to close a deal.
