1. Genuine Corydalis yanhusuo: It is irregularly flat-spherical, 0.5~1.5 cm in diameter, yellow or yellowish-brown on the surface, with irregular netted wrinkles, a slightly sunken stem scar at the top, and often lumpy protrusions or sometimes slight depressions at the bottom. The texture is hard and not easy to break, the cross-section is horn-like and yellow, the odor is faint, and the taste is bitter.
2. Processing adulteration: It is common to process and adulterate cobblestones into Corydalis yanhusuo medicinal material. They resemble Corydalis yanhusuo in appearance, vary in size, are yellow and smooth on the surface, have no obvious distinction between top and bottom, are heavy and solid in texture, and fade after washing with water while the water turns yellow.
3. Adulteration with other plants: The tubers of other plants in the genus Corydalis are used to pass off as Corydalis yanhusuo medicinal material, mainly the tubers of Corydalis decumbens, Corydalis remota, Corydalis integrifolia and Corydalis ambigua, among others. These tubers are relatively similar in appearance to Corydalis yanhusuo. Corydalis decumbens is grayish-yellow on the surface, with numerous tumor-like protrusions and a bluntly rounded top. Corydalis remota is irregularly spherical, yellowish-brown on the surface, and shrunken. Corydalis integrifolia is spherical or conical, grayish-brown on the surface, and shrunken. The individuals of the above three types of Corydalis are generally larger than Corydalis yanhusuo and are local-use varieties.
