How much is fangfeng seed per jin

The propagation methods of fangfeng (Saposhnikovia divaricata) usually include seed propagation and root division propagation, but seed propagation is often the main method in production. Choose well-drained, loose, dry sandy loam for sowing. To achieve high yields in fangfeng cultivation, seed is key. Let's take a look below at how much fangfeng seed costs per jin!

How much is fangfeng seed per jin?

The market price of fangfeng seed is about 40 yuan to 50 yuan per jin, with prices varying according to the place of origin and seed quality.

Harvesting methods for fangfeng seed

Fangfeng sown in the same year does not flower or set seed. In autumn, select disease-free, robust roots as seed roots for planting. In August to September of the following year, take care to harvest the mature seeds, otherwise the germination rate will be very low or the seeds will not germinate at all. After harvesting, place the seeds in a cool place to after-ripen for 5 to 7 days, then thresh, air-dry, and store for later use. Fresh seeds have a germination rate of 50 to 75%. Seeds stored for 2 years have a low germination rate and may even be unusable as seed.

Sowing methods for fangfeng seed

1. Seed soaking: Place the seeds on flat ground and rub them gently to slightly break the seed coat, then soak them in 35°C warm water for 4 to 5 hours. After removing them, mix with fine sand and place at 20 to 25°C to promote germination. Sow when the young sprouts begin to stir (seed-to-sand ratio 1:3). For autumn sowing, use dry seeds.

2. Drilling: For autumn sowing in September to October, open shallow furrows 1.5 to 2 cm deep along the bed at a row spacing of 30 cm, spread the seeds evenly into the furrows, cover with soil, press down lightly, and water. At a temperature of 25 to 28°C, keep the soil moist, and seedlings will emerge in about 20 days. For spring sowing from late March to mid-April, the method is the same as above. Autumn sowing is better than spring sowing; fangfeng produced from autumn sowing is thick and sturdy, with high powder content and no furrow running. Use 2 kg of seed per mu.
