Longyang Village, Gubeikou Town, Miyun County, Beijing, is located in the western part of Gubeikou Town, more than 130 km from the urban area. Chen Chunxiu traveled back and forth over those more than 130 km for 4 months in a row. Through sufficient preliminary research, Chen Chunxiu formulated a detailed work plan and carried out services in all aspects, from variety renewal and field management to the promotion of new technologies, increasing the village's protected pepper yield by more than 30%.

Chen Chunxiu is one of the experts in the Hundred Experts and Hundred Bases Matching Project ("Double Hundred Project") of the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences. As an important measure of science and technology services for farmers, the "Double Hundred Project" took only two years to promote nearly 200 safe, ecological, high-yield, efficient and water-saving production technologies, achieve an average annual yield increase of more than 10% at the matched bases, and reach 50 million yuan in increased income and reduced expenditure.

"We must be guided by meeting innovation needs and strengthen science and technology support services." Gao Hua, Party Secretary of the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, said that science and technology services for farmers require us both to improve our level of science and technology services, making them specialized, networked and scaled, and to rely on the power of science and technology to transform low-end and backward traditional industries, develop and build a green, circular, low-carbon and efficient modern agricultural industrial system, raise the level of agricultural modernization, and enable the broad masses of farmers to increase their incomes and become prosperous.

Since the official implementation of the science and technology services for farmers action plan in 2012, the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences has taken the "1+3" model as its core and, by building a science and technology service platform for agriculture, rural areas and farmers, establishing an efficient mechanism, building a professional service team and implementing projects for the benefit of farmers, further enhanced its influence and driving force.
