Trial planting of a new high-yield forage grass succeeds

This year, Zichang County in Shaanxi has vigorously promoted the planting of a new high-yield forage grass, giant juncao, across more than 800 mu, adding a new source of income for local farmers. At present, the giant juncao is growing well and thriving.

Du Senyou, a professor at Yan'an Vocational and Technical College, introduced that giant juncao has a high protein content and a fast growth rate, can be harvested two to three times a year, and yields 10-15 wan tons per mu, while also being usable as clean feed.

It is understood that giant juncao is one of the high-yield, high-quality juncao grasses. In addition to being used as mushroom substrate, it can also be used to feed cattle, sheep, pigs, geese, rabbits and other herbivorous livestock and poultry. Through the planting of giant juncao in the county this year, it will play a positive role in promoting the development of Yan'an's livestock industry and the adjustment of its agricultural structure.
