Patent granted for a family-based selective breeding method for red tilapia
Recently, "A family-based selective breeding method for pearl-white strain red tilapia," invented by Zhu Wenbin, assistant researcher, and Dong Zaijie, researcher, and others from the Aquatic Genetic Breeding Laboratory of the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, was granted a national invention patent.
The present invention belongs to the field of aquaculture technology and provides a family-based selective breeding method for pearl-white strain red tilapia, the method comprising:
(1) Selection of broodstock: from a red tilapia population with severe body color differentiation, select red tilapia with pearl-white body surface, no red spots or black spots on the whole body, and obvious growth advantages as candidate parents.
(2) Establishment of families: place the selected male and female parents into net cages for adaptive intensive rearing, carry out artificial directional mating at a male-to-female ratio of 1:1 until hatching, with fry rearing conducted independently.
(3) Selective breeding of the pearl-white strain of red tilapia: determine the juvenile stage and adult stage of red tilapia growth, screen out families with a high proportion of pearl-white red tilapia and excellent growth traits as the base families for the next generation of selective breeding, and after 2 to 4 generations of selective breeding according to the above method, pearl-white strain red tilapia can be produced. The present invention avoids inbreeding, effectively improves the breed degeneration of red tilapia, and maintains population genetic diversity; it accelerates the selective breeding process and improves breeding efficiency.
