Solving greening challenges: Hebei Province vigorously promotes new afforestation technologies and models

A few days ago, the provincial on-site conference on afforestation and greening was held in Xingtai City, where participants observed and studied the "Hao-style afforestation method" that solves the afforestation challenges of arid shallow hilly areas, exchanged and studied ten new afforestation and greening models from Zhangjiakou City, and promoted both the "Hao-style afforestation method" and Zhangjiakou City's ten new afforestation and greening models throughout the province.

The "Hao-style afforestation method" was invented by Hao Jingxiang, a retired employee of Xingtai County. Since 2005, veteran Party member Hao Jingxiang has devoted himself actively to afforestation and greening. After 9 years of repeated trials, he finally succeeded in developing the "Hao-style afforestation method," which consists of "wrapping with plastic bags, burying corn cobs, covering with stone slabs, and relying on forest-growing boards." This method not only serves to collect water, preserve soil moisture, and stabilize soil, but also successfully solves the challenges restricting afforestation and greening, such as arid climate, thin soil layers, and poor water retention capacity, greatly improving the survival rate of planted trees.

Based on actual conditions and adapted to local circumstances, Zhangjiakou City has actively explored and implemented ten new afforestation and greening models, including "government funding, bidding-based afforestation," "government land leasing, enterprise afforestation," and "government subsidies, company afforestation," effectively solving a series of challenges such as insufficient afforestation funds and weak ecological construction capacity.

All localities in Hebei Province will make prompt use of the relatively idle period from now until the start of autumn and winter afforestation to carry out widespread training on new technologies and models. In particular, for the "Hao-style afforestation method" and Zhangjiakou City's ten new afforestation and greening models, they will organize professional and technical personnel to provide technical guidance services in multiple forms and at multiple levels, and will conduct outreach and popularization among the public, especially large-scale afforestation households, so that they can master the features of the new technologies and models and proactively adopt them in afforestation.
