A New Path for Chicken Farming: Technology + Industry + E-commerce

August is the most beautiful season in Ulanqab.

At Xiuhua Mountain Villa, which covers 1700 mu in Pingdiquan Town, Chayouqian Banner, Ulanqab, green grasslands are set off by blue skies and white clouds, and the fluffy Beijing You chickens "strolling" on the grass add a touch of vitality to the grassland.

Recently, the on-site meeting of the Beijing-Mongolia Cooperation Targeted Poverty Alleviation Project was held here. The Beijing Modern Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Service Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the "Alliance") supported Inner Mongolia Fengye Ecological Development Co., Ltd. in developing the laying hen breeding industry, integrated innovative resources such as enterprises and research institutes to implement the "Beijing-Mongolia Cooperation Ulanqab Laying Hen Breeding Science and Technology Poverty Alleviation" project, and explored a targeted poverty alleviation model of "technology + industry + e-commerce platform," which won unanimous praise from experts from both Beijing and Inner Mongolia.

"It's too hot now, so not many chickens come out. They will all come out for a stroll in the evening." Yang Xiuhua, general manager of the company, told the Science and Technology Daily reporter.

Yang Xiuhua, just over 50 years old, began engaging in laying hen breeding a few years ago. "Ulanqab has a tradition of raising chickens, but it was interrupted for a period of time and has recently begun to develop rapidly again." Yang Xiuhua said that before cooperating with Beijing research institutes, she mainly relied on experience to raise chickens. Although the benefits were still acceptable, standardized breeding was lacking, and the scale could not grow.

In fact, farmers in Ulanqab generally lack sufficient understanding of implementing standardized breeding. The laying hen breeding industry here has a low coverage rate of improved breeds, backward feeding and management techniques, poor business management, a short industrial chain, and limited economic and social benefits.

The "Beijing-Mongolia Cooperation Ulanqab Laying Hen Breeding Science and Technology Poverty Alleviation" project aims to help Ulanqab build standardized laying hen breeding bases, introduce high-quality laying hen breeds, and improve coverage and feeding management levels. "On the basis of Beijing You chickens, experts brought us a new breed, the 'Nongda No. 3' grain-saving laying hen, provided special feed with higher vitamin and amino acid content, and equipped us with a dedicated technical team." Yang Xiuhua said.

The Alliance organized 4 experts, including researcher Liu Huagui from the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences and Professor Ning Zhonghua from China Agricultural University, to come to Ulanqab to hold chicken-raising technical training classes and on-site training for farmers. The experts gave detailed explanations of new breeds and new technologies by checking production records and other methods.

"Look at our chicken houses and the chicken sheds on the grass where the chickens drink water and rest. They are all built according to standards. The experts brought us technology and information, and also helped us open up the market." Yang Xiuhua said happily that the company's eggs and chicken meat are now sold to Beijing, Shanghai, Hohhot, Baotou and other cities.

The project selected 2 demonstration sites, Suji Village and Zhangrengou Village in Pingdiquan Town, Chayouqian Banner, Ulanqab City, to breed "Nongda No. 3" grain-saving laying hens, driving a total of 25 specialized large households and poor households, with an average annual income of 8,400 yuan per household; it selected 2 demonstration sites, Shidagu Village and Baijiadi Village, to breed Beijing You chickens, driving a total of 40 specialized large households and poor households, with an average annual income of 8,000 yuan per household.

"Being able to help so many people make money makes me happier than making money myself. All of this is thanks to science and technology." The straightforward Yang Xiuhua said.

Also in Chayouqian Banner, a world-class modern fully automatic French fry processing plant is particularly eye-catching. The reporter saw that several factory buildings were under rapid construction. This was invested in and built jointly with the Chayouqian Banner government by Beijing Kaida Hengye Agricultural Technology Development Co., Ltd., an Alliance enterprise, with an investment of 800 million yuan.

Xue Xincui, director of the company's office, told the Science and Technology Daily reporter that this fully automatic French fry processing production line is in a leading domestic position in terms of technical level, equipment intelligence and future development potential, with some technologies at the world's leading level. After completion, the factory will drive more than 76,000 mu of raw material planting and more than 5,000 poor planting households, with an average income increase of more than 48,000 yuan per household.

After the project is completed, a total of 300 rural laborers will be employed, with an average annual salary of an estimated 50,000 yuan per person, increasing the income of the rural employed population by 15 million yuan, which can greatly ease the employment pressure in Ulanqab City and help poverty alleviation.

The Alliance played a key role in facilitating Beijing enterprises to establish a French fry processing plant in Ulanqab. The Alliance fully leveraged the role and influence of various communication channels (websites, WeChat), built a Beijing-Mongolia science and technology cooperation information platform for agricultural information exchange and communication, efficiently and quickly provided interactive information services for member units, promoted effective matching of advantageous resources between the two places, and advanced new breakthroughs in Beijing-Mongolia cooperation targeted poverty alleviation.
