Qinghai: Artificial cultivation of morel mushrooms achieved for the first time

Science and Technology Daily (Reporter Ma Yanfang) - Recently, the morel mushroom improved strain cultivation experiment carried out by the Crop Breeding and Cultivation Research Institute of the Qinghai Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences achieved success, with the morel mushrooms planted in the experimental field entering the harvest period. This means that Qinghai Province has achieved artificial cultivation of morel mushrooms for the first time, providing good technical support and practical experience for carrying out larger-scale commercial cultivation in the future.

According to Che Jinye, associate researcher and head of the project team, the morel mushroom is a rare wild mushroom. Because its cap surface is uneven and shaped like a sheep's stomach, it is named morel mushroom, and it is recognized worldwide as a precious edible and medicinal mushroom. At present, morel mushrooms mainly rely on wild sources, with low yield, difficult collection, and large market demand. After 2 years of introduction trials, Qinghai researchers achieved a technical breakthrough through four steps: "ridge formation and inoculation, black film shading, nutrient supplementation, and moisture regulation," completing the entire growth cycle of morel mushrooms within 80 days.
