New strawberry variety with rich flavor successfully developed in the UK

It is reported that British scientists spent 8 years developing a strawberry with excellent value for money, one that can stand comparison with many of the world's strawberry varieties known for their delicious taste. It finally received the "Best New Fruit Variety Award" at the UK Grower Awards in February this year, and will go on public sale this summer. Scientists in Kent said that some foreign strawberries can be stored for a long time but are bland and tasteless, so to produce higher-quality strawberries they developed a variety called Malling Centenary.

Wilson, technical manager at the British supermarket chain Sainsbury's, said this strawberry has both inner and outer qualities: it is not only easy to grow but can also be produced in large quantities, and under different weather conditions it can produce fruit of similar size, with both flavor and shelf life guaranteed. He also said the new variety is expected to replace other strawberries within 4 years and become the public's new favorite.
