Miniature pigs have arrived, successfully bred by Chinese scientists

Recently, the genome research team at BGI in Shenzhen has bred a miniature pig, developed through genetic modification of the small Bama pig breed. It weighs 15 kg, about the size of a medium-sized dog, and was initially bred as an animal model for human diseases. Experts estimate that these miniature pigs will sell for at least 10,000 yuan.

By comparison, the original Bama pig weighs between 35 and 50 kg, while domestic pigs generally weigh more than 110 kg. In the near future, through gene-editing technology, consumers who buy miniature pigs may also be able to choose different skin colors and patterns.
