Two scientific research achievements from Hebei Agricultural University boost the development of the mutton sheep industry

Website news (Reporter Wang Yuqin) On December 9, organized by the Hebei Provincial Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Service Center and hosted by the Hebei Provincial Department of Education, 7 industry experts were invited to form an appraisal committee in Hengshui to conduct a conference appraisal of two scientific research achievements completed by Hebei Agricultural University: "Research and Application of Nutrient Requirements of Meat Sheep (Daohan Crossbreed)" and "Research, Development and Demonstration of Large-scale Efficient Breeding Technology for Meat Sheep." The appraisal committee held that both achievements have reached the international advanced level in research and are of great significance to promoting the rapid development of the mutton sheep industry.

The innovation of the "Research and Application of Nutrient Requirements of Meat Sheep (Daohan Crossbreed)" project lies in establishing optimal regression mathematical models for energy, protein and minerals through feeding, digestion and metabolism, and comparative slaughter experiments during the lamb growth period (20-50 kg), and deriving the nutrient requirement parameters for lambs during the growth period. Through feeding, digestion and metabolism, and gas metabolism experiments on pregnant and lactating ewes, optimal regression mathematical models for energy and protein were established, and the energy and protein requirement parameters for breeding ewes were derived. This achievement provides a basic basis for the formulation of meat sheep feeding standards in China.

The "Research, Development and Demonstration of Large-scale Efficient Breeding Technology for Meat Sheep" project studied the microbial fermentation technology of green corn stalks. With the addition of an appropriate amount of ammonium sulfate as a nitrogen source, the crude protein content of the stalks increased from 7% to 14.60%, the total amino acid content increased by 15.37%, and the digestibility increased to 80%. The acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of the feed decreased by 58.83% and 42.32% respectively. Early weaning technology for lambs was studied, achieving weaning at 43 days of age, and simultaneous estrus treatment was carried out on ewes, achieving a synchronous estrus rate of 95.65% and a lambing rate of 210%. A dense lambing model of 5 births in 3 years was achieved by mating ewes 60-70 days after giving birth. At the same time, by applying molecular biology and cell fusion technology, recombinant early pregnancy factor protein and cloned antibodies were prepared, achieving early pregnancy diagnosis within 1 week after mating, with an accuracy rate of 95%. These efficient breeding technologies were promoted and applied in large-scale sheep farms in the form of a "combined punch" model, achieving significant economic, social and ecological benefits.
