New wheat variety "Jiemai 19" passes provincial approval

Recently, good news came from the Zhongjie Agricultural Science Institute of Bohai New Area: after nearly ten years of scientific research, the new wheat variety they independently bred, "Jiemai 19", has officially passed the approval of the Hebei Provincial Crop Variety Committee, with approval number Ji Shen Mai No. 2015009. This is another wheat variety they have bred that has passed Hebei provincial approval, following "Jimai 32".

It is reported that in response to the ecological conditions of the Heilonggang River Basin area (the Heilonggang River Basin includes 50 counties, cities and districts in the six cities of Hengshui, Xingtai, Handan, Cangzhou, Baoding and Shijiazhuang), and the shortcoming that the currently promoted and planted "Jimai 32" variety is prone to lodging, the agricultural science institute decided to breed a new variety. The breeding goals were multi-resistance (drought resistance and salt tolerance, cold resistance, resistance to dry hot winds, disease resistance, lodging resistance), water saving, high yield and stable yield, achieving high yield by increasing the variety's yield potential and ensuring stable wheat yield through the variety's multi-resistance.

Zhang Jianguo, director of the agricultural science institute, said that Jiemai 19 was an excellent mutant plant selected in 1996 from a "Jimai 32" production field, bred from the nineteenth strain line that performed relatively well. It was officially developed in 2006 and tested in this region, with very ideal results. In 2010, they submitted it to the provincial crop variety approval committee for approval, and after regional trials by the provincial approval committee, it officially passed the approval of the provincial crop variety application committee this year.
??? "Jiemai 19" has an average growth period of 247 days, and its drought resistance reaches grade 2 standard. In terms of disease resistance, it has high resistance and immunity to stripe rust and leaf rust, and its lodging resistance is also greatly improved compared with "Jimai 32". According to provincial production trials, the highest yield per mu reached 379.4 kg, an increase of more than 50 kg per mu compared with "Jimai 32". The promotion and application of "Jiemai 19" in production can bring the wheat yield of dry saline-alkali land in the Bohai New Area to a new level, and play a great role in generating income for agricultural development.
