Yuan Longping's new super rice variety successfully trial-planted in Hanzhong, Shaanxi

Recently, good news came from Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province, the only "super rice" high-yield demonstration site in the northwest region: the latest super rice variety successfully bred by Academician Yuan Longping's team, "Chaoyou Qianhao", introduced by the city, was successfully trial-planted, and field yield measurement reached over 800 kg per mu.

According to the national rice planting regionalization, Hanzhong is the northernmost limit for indica rice cultivation in China, with large day-night temperature differences and long sunshine and growth periods for rice. Yuan Longping once praised it highly: "Hanzhong is a good place for producing high-quality rice." Hanzhong City has vigorously promoted the agricultural doubling project and the construction of a one-million-mu high-quality rice production base, and has been listed as one of 26 rice high-yield project demonstration sites in 13 provinces nationwide. Last year, it successfully introduced the super rice varieties Y Liangyou 900, Y Liangyou 800 and Y Liangyou 5845 bred by Academician Yuan Longping's team. This year, led by the Hanzhong City Seed Management Station, the newly bred "Chaoyou Qianhao" from Yuan Longping's team was once again introduced for demonstration planting in Hanzhong. The trial-planted "Chaoyou Qianhao" has large panicles and many grains, obvious yield-increasing advantages and strong disease resistance, and its management is basically the same as that of traditional rice varieties.

According to the person in charge of the Hanzhong City Seed Management Station, this year Hanzhong's super rice varieties have moved from high-yield demonstration into the stage of extended planting. The Y Liangyou 5845 super rice trial-planted last year has passed provincial approval and been extended throughout the province, and the city's current planting area has reached 40,000 mu.
