Yesterday, it was learned from the Tongnan District Agriculture Committee that the rice direct-seeding cultivation technology trial carried out by the district's agricultural experts at the Zitong and Chongkan trial bases has succeeded, and has smoothly passed expert yield measurement and acceptance.

"Rice direct-seeding technology is a cultivation method in which seeds are sown directly into the field without raising seedlings or transplanting." A relevant person in charge of the Tongnan District Agriculture Committee explained that the technology has the following advantages: First, it saves labor and effort. Direct seeding eliminates the labor of traditional seedling raising and transplanting, saves seedling fields, and is simple and easy; Second, it gives high yields. Because direct-seeded rice has many tillers at low nodes, the tiller panicles are basically uniform, the panicle-setting rate is high, and the total number of panicles is large, resulting in high yields; Third, the growth period is short. Direct-seeded rice has no root damage from pulling seedlings and no greening-up process after transplanting, so the growth process is accelerated; Fourth, it is conducive to developing intensive production. Large-area direct seeding can save a large amount of labor, ease the contradiction of seasonal labor shortages, and is of great significance to realizing the mechanization, lightening, and modernization of rice production.

"Our district has carried out rice direct-seeding cultivation technology trials for 3 consecutive years. In the first two years, trial research was conducted in Xinsheng Town and Shanghe Town respectively, accumulating some experience." The person in charge said that this year our district carried out mechanical direct seeding and manual broadcasting in Xinsheng Village, Zitong Street, and Linjiang Village, Chongkan Town, respectively. The trial areas were 9.8 mu and 21.0 mu, and the trial varieties were "Y Liangyou No. 1" and "Shen Liangyou 5814", with generally good growth. According to expert yield measurement and acceptance, the average yield per mu reached 592 kg, and the highest yield per mu reached 686 kg. Compared with traditional manual transplanting, each mu increased rice output by 50-80 kg and saved more than 200 yuan in labor costs for seedling raising and transplanting. It marks the success of the rice direct-seeding cultivation technology trial in our district.
