Gonghe County in Qinghai Province has made use of local high-quality hot spring resources to successfully introduce and trial-farm Australian lobsters, and has also bred lobster offspring. At present, the plateau lobster babies are being sold to other provinces, generating a profit of more than 300,000 yuan.

On June 22, at the Jiahao Australian Lobster Breeding Professional Cooperative in Longyangxia, Gonghe County, the successfully bred lobster fry were seen growing well. Staff member Fang Lianjun introduced that, on the basis of successfully farming Australian lobsters, they pair adult lobsters in a 1 to 3 ratio. After one month they are fertilized, then the female lobsters are placed in breeding ponds to carry eggs, and after one and a half months the eggs hatch into fry. Now they have introduced new technology, using artificial incubation in flat parallel tanks after fertilization, which has greatly increased the survival rate.

"The hot spring water in the Qugou area of Gonghe County is rich in minerals, trace elements and high oxygen content, which greatly helps the growth of lobster babies. Moreover, the fry bred in Qinghai have strong resistance and grow easily. After being shipped to Qingdao, Zhejiang and other places, farmers generally report a very high survival rate," Fang Lianjun said.

It is understood that for lobster farmers in other provinces, due to limitations such as water resources, they only begin breeding fry in March each year. The high-quality hot spring resources of Gonghe County exist all year round, so fry can be bred at any time.

Chen Maolin, head of the Jiahao Australian Lobster Breeding Professional Cooperative in Longyangxia, Gonghe County, introduced: "Not long ago, we sold more than 300,000 fry and made a profit of more than 300,000 yuan. At present, lobster farming is shifting from small ponds to large earthen ponds, making full use of local labor resources and passing on technology to farmers and herdsmen in nearby villages, ultimately forming an economic model in which farmers do the farming and we purchase the output.
