Xingtang villager's help for hometown's beautiful countryside construction becomes a much-told story

"The village work team has tried every means to raise funds and find projects for the village. As a villager of this village, it is only right that I do something practical and contribute my bit to the beautiful countryside construction of my hometown." Recently, Wang Huqun, a villager from Dongjingdi Village, Xingtang County, spent more than 300,000 yuan to build public toilets for the village and repair the village committee building and the theater stage, a deed that has become a much-told story among the villagers.

Wang Huqun, 55 this year, began at the age of 17 to dream of making his fortune in the wider world, going out with other villagers to work on construction sites. He was hardworking and eager to learn and work, and after many years of enduring hardships and tempering, he had saved up some money. In 2010, Wang Huqun and friends jointly registered Xingtang County Qiangjin Labor and Construction Company, formed a construction team of more than 60 people, and took on outside contracts for fairly large projects such as buildings, roadbeds and bridges. Relying on his own integrity and construction quality, his business flourished.

At the end of August this year, Wang Huqun returned to the village and saw that it was carrying out the "two renovations, one cleanup and one demolition" campaign. Wang Huqun discussed with his wife that in the past they had been forced to go out to work because of poverty, and now that they had some financial strength, they did not want to watch their hometown lag behind any longer, and wanted to take out some savings to support the beautiful countryside construction. His wife readily agreed.

"Huqun came to me and told me his idea, saying he had this skill, and asked me to give him the planning and design drawings for the public toilets and the repair of the village committee building, and he would personally lead a team to build them voluntarily," said Xu Ming, first secretary of Dongjingdi Village and head of the work team from the Shijiazhuang Municipal Working Committee of the Party. "He is neither a Party member nor a cadre. To be honest, his good deed and righteous action made me feel very surprised and moved."

"Being rich yourself is not real wealth. Only when your hometown has completely pulled out the roots of poverty, taken off the label of poverty, and changed its old appearance for a new one, can we who work away from home feel more proud," Wang Huqun said sincerely. "Although I do projects away from home, my roots are in Dongjingdi Village, and it is what I should do to contribute my part to the beautiful countryside construction of my hometown."

At present, according to the planning and design for the beautiful countryside, 6 flush public toilets with a total floor area of 200 square meters, the renovation and upgrading of the village committee building, and the repair of the theater stage have basically been completed, and are expected to be fully finished and put into use by the end of October this year.
