Xinhua News Agency, Shijiazhuang, August 23 (Fan Xiaofei, Wu Yuncong) She is a college-graduate village official whose youth chose to blossom in the soil; she is a "technical expert" in the eyes of the villagers, solving technical problems for vegetable farmers all year round; she is the "God of Technology and Wealth" of Lilou Village, leading the whole village out of poverty to prosperity. She is Xu Peipei, affectionately called the "Vegetable Fairy" by everyone.

In 2012, Xu Peipei became a college-graduate village official through examination. One day in May 2013, when she was assigned to work in Chenxinzhuang Village, Daliuzhuang Township, Linxi County, she went to the market to buy vegetables and found that the zucchini on the vegetable stall was covered with spots and looked wrinkled. Xu Peipei, a graduate of Hebei Agricultural University majoring in animal and plant quarantine, recognized at a glance that the zucchini had "viral disease."

Learning that the vegetable farmer came from Lilou Village, where the zucchini in all the greenhouses of the village had been infected to varying degrees, she immediately called Li Zhenbo, secretary of the Party branch of Lilou Village, and said: "I will take care of all the zucchini in the village." That afternoon, Xu Peipei rushed to Lilou Village and asked the village secretary to gather the vegetable farmers together to explain to them the harm of "viral disease" and how to prevent and control it.

With Xu Peipei's guidance and help, more than half of the greenhouse vegetables in Lilou Village were saved, reducing the vegetable farmers' economic losses. From then on, the warm-hearted Xu Peipei became Lilou Village's "volunteer technician," and whenever she had free time, she would go to the greenhouses to look around.

In the spring of 2014, when Xu Peipei was inspecting conditions in the vegetable fields, she found that pepper seedlings planted more than 20 days earlier were not growing new roots, and their leaves had turned yellow and wilted. To solve the problem, Xu Peipei not only sought help from professional teachers at her alma mater, but also took the diseased seedlings to Shandong to consult experts. After several twists and turns, Xu Peipei finally found a solution, recovering nearly 2,000 yuan in losses for each greenhouse.

To help vegetable farmers solve problems arising during planting in a timely manner, Xu Peipei also set up a learning website and created QQ groups and WeChat groups. In the groups, Xu Peipei promptly sent vegetable farmers information related to planting essentials and pest and disease control according to the season and management period. For older vegetable farmers, Xu Peipei also set up public bulletin boards in the greenhouse area to make it easier for them to obtain information.

Xu Peipei also helped the village establish an e-commerce platform to promote the village's vegetable products in an all-round way, from planting to harvesting. At her suggestion, the village registered the "Guangyin" vegetable trademark, established a dedicated cooperative, and gained its own sales team. The villagers all said that without this "Vegetable Fairy," their lives would not be so prosperous.

In January 2015, Xu Peipei formally came to Lilou Village and served as deputy secretary of the village branch; in January 2016, Xu Peipei served as first secretary of the Party branch of Lilou Village. In the same year, construction began on 6 high-standard winter-warm vegetable greenhouses covering more than 30 mu in Lilou Village. Xu Peipei is full of confidence in the future development of the vegetable industry.
