Xinhua News Agency, Shijiazhuang, August 16 (Fan Xiaofei) His name is Li Shichao, and as a member of the "post-80s" generation, he is the director of a welfare home. For 6 years, he has used patience and meticulous care to bring warmth and love to nearly a hundred elderly people. He often says, "Everyone has a day when they grow old. I want to do what I can to treat the elderly well."
Li Shichao is from Xiaozhangzhuang Village, Xiguocheng Township, Julu County, Xingtai City. After going to university, every time he came home and saw the empty-nest elderly in the village with no one to care for them, Li Shichao was filled with mixed emotions.
In 2010, after graduating from university, he had the idea of opening a welfare home: since these elderly people had no one to accompany them, why not use his own advantage of having studied medicine to open a welfare home and help them enjoy their later years in peace.
He acted as soon as he decided. In his 20s, Li Shichao gave up the opportunity to work in a big city and, with his family's support, opened Julu County's first privately run welfare home - Jianmin Welfare Home. "At the beginning, the welfare home had only a few old rooms. To save money, I bought paint, painted the walls, and did the renovation myself. After opening, the first group of 6 elderly people moved in, 5 of whom were households enjoying the five guarantees." Li Shichao recalled that at the most difficult times he thought about giving up, but in the end he persevered because he could not bear to leave the elderly people who needed care.
From 2010 to now, Li Shichao's nursing home has provided elderly care services for more than 140 elderly people. Helping the elderly wash their faces, feeding them, cutting their nails, washing their clothes... Although the daily work is very tedious, Li Shichao has never complained. "Treat every elderly person as family" is the belief he has always held to.
The couple Chen Tongzhong and Li Shenglian have already lived in the welfare home for 4 years. "Xiaochao is like our own grandchild, staying with us every day. If we do not see him one day, we are not used to it." When talking about Li Shichao, the faces of the couple in their 80s were full of happy smiles.
"My heart is not good, my wife has high blood pressure, and our children are not by our side. Living here, we do not have to worry about three meals a day, someone takes our blood pressure every day, and when we get sick we can find a doctor at any time." When talking about Li Shichao's welfare home, 72-year-old Chang Mianqin praised it repeatedly.
Now, Jianmin Welfare Home has a total of 76 elderly people living in it. During the day, the elderly gather together to play cards, play chess, and sing opera; at night, the elderly watch TV and chat about everyday matters together...
The satisfaction of the elderly cannot be separated from Li Shichao's day-after-day care and dedication. "Whenever an elderly person has a birthday, we send a cake and longevity noodles. In daily care, we also establish health records according to the elderly person's physical condition." For Li Shichao, caring for the elderly has long become part of his life.
Li Shichao is full of confidence in the future of the welfare home. He believes that through hard work, the dream of "medical care in old age and support in old age" will get closer and closer.
