This is a relay of love - upon learning that his village had been hit by floods, Liu Sanrun, Party secretary of Xiushui Village in Tianshui Town, Jingxing County, who had just undergone surgery for stomach cancer, ignored the objections of doctors and family and did not even take time to have his stitches removed, firmly returning to the village to lead villagers in disaster relief and recovery and reconstruction work; moved by his spirit of selfless dedication, early on the morning of August 3, the relevant person in charge of the Provincial Volunteer Service Federation and the Hebei Medical University medical volunteer service team went together to Xiushui Village to visit and comfort Liu Sanrun and provide free medical consultations for him and some villagers.

The mountain road was rugged, some sections had been washed away, and flood-destroyed farmland could be seen everywhere along the road. However, upon entering Xiushui Village, the scene of villagers energetically repairing roads still inspired hope.

"The one who keeps pressing his left rib with his hand is Liu Sanrun." Under the guidance of villagers, the volunteers from the Hebei Medical University medical volunteer service team finally found Liu Sanrun.

Liu Sanrun, 54 this year, became Party secretary of Xiushui Village in 2003. During the conversation, the reporter learned that in 2014, due to stomach cancer, two-fifths of his stomach was removed. Recently the disease recurred, and on July 18 he underwent total stomach removal surgery at the Provincial People's Hospital.

"For more than ten years, the village's various undertakings had finally made great progress, and one flood destroyed everything in an instant! The villagers suffered disaster. As village Party secretary, how could I stand by and watch?" Liu Sanrun said. Early on the morning of July 23, on his first day moving from the intensive care unit to a general ward, he went directly back to the village and quickly threw himself into disaster relief and post-disaster recovery and reconstruction work. At that time, his wound had not yet had its stitches removed. From then on, every day, from six or seven in the morning to seven or eight in the evening, Liu Sanrun kept dragging his sick body along to organize disaster relief and post-disaster reconstruction.

"Does the wound still hurt?"

"Have you felt uncomfortable at all these past two days?"...

When they saw Liu Sanrun, the volunteers from the Hebei Medical University medical volunteer service team, who had already been jolted along the road for several hours because of inconvenient transportation, did not take time to rest and immediately gathered around him, asking with concern about his physical condition.

"After stomach removal surgery, one should be hospitalized for at least half a month. Liu Sanrun was hospitalized for only five days after surgery before being discharged to take part in disaster relief and post-disaster reconstruction. He was risking his life for Xiushui Village and for the villagers!" said Wang Lili, a medical volunteer and chief physician of the Third Department of Surgery at the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University, with emotion.

"You must ensure as much rest and nutrition as possible and promptly go for relevant auxiliary examinations. Based on the pathology and related examination results, we will formulate a detailed treatment plan for you." While giving Liu Sanrun some anti-inflammatory medicines, the volunteers repeatedly urged him.

"Wherever there is need, wherever there are sick and injured, there are our medical volunteers." Liang Lei, deputy director of the Hebei Medical University office, said that the school attached great importance to using its professional strengths to support flood fighting, emergency rescue and disaster relief, and promptly made arrangements. Medical workers from its affiliated medical units also volunteered one after another to support the disaster areas.

According to reports, on August 2 they also organized a medical volunteer service team composed of experts from departments including gastroenterology, emergency medicine, immunology and rheumatology, neurology, traditional Chinese medicine internal medicine, electrocardiography room, endocrinology, infectious diseases, cardiology and orthopedics from its affiliated hospitals, carrying examination equipment, to Baifo Village and Susizhang Village relief points in Jiasong Town, Nanhe County, and the Xingtai Economic Development Zone, to provide medical services for disaster-affected people, armed police officers and soldiers, and volunteers, and presented and distributed more than 60 kinds of medicines worth 12,000 yuan.
