Pig prices fall below 9 yuan before Spring Festival, expected to mainly fluctuate at a high level
Today, pig prices continued their slight downward trend, with the average price of crossbred pigs (Duroc x Landrace x Yorkshire) falling below 9 yuan, and the number of regions nationwide below 9 yuan continues to increase. Even so, the pig market situation is still not that bad; weak upward momentum does not mean a sharp decline. With the tug-of-war between supply and demand and tightening supply, even slaughterhouses looking to push prices down must take these two points into account. Moreover, slaughterhouses are about to take their Spring Festival break, and this is precisely the period when they are accelerating stockpiling, with many buyers raising their purchase prices.
However, some voices in the industry believe that with only a few days left before Spring Festival, market consumption growth is slow, while pig supply is relatively sufficient, and slaughterhouses will gradually shut down for the holiday, leading to a market with prices but no buyers. With little time left for farmers to sell their pigs before the New Year, farmers are in a rather awkward position. But some farmers also believe that after the slaughterhouses leave, there are still small-scale butchers, and this is precisely the peak season for rural consumption and household consumption. While farmers indeed have little time left to sell, the number of pigs yet to be sold is probably not large either, so the room for price rises or falls is limited, and pig prices before the holiday are expected to mainly fluctuate at a high level.
