Tender broad beans sell well in the market before Spring Festival, priced as high as 8 yuan per jin

Recently, tender broad beans have appeared at vegetable stalls in the Dadukou vegetable market. Although the price reaches 8 yuan/jin, because they are fresh and tender with a delicate fragrance and a sweet taste, and with Spring Festival approaching, they have attracted many residents to “taste the freshness,” and sales are looking good.

At the Jiugongmiao vegetable market in Dadukou, resident Zhou Yuanxiu came to the market early in the morning to buy vegetables. Because guests were coming to her home for lunch that day, she planned to buy some good meat and vegetables to entertain them. When she saw tender broad beans for sale, she quickly weighed out a jin so everyone could taste the freshness.

“I've already sold four or five jin this morning, and sales are pretty good!” Vendor Master Zheng said while busy weighing broad beans. The tender broad beans now on the market are all shipped in from other places such as Yunnan; local broad beans have only just begun to flower. He said that aside from being available earlier, tender broad beans from other places also differ from local ones in taste: “Tender broad beans from other places taste fresh and sweet, while local ones have a more glutinous texture.”

At present, the quantity of tender broad beans from other places sold in Dadukou is not large either. Taking the Jiugongmiao vegetable market as an example, only one or two vegetable stalls sell them. The market supply is small and transport costs are relatively high, so the price is higher, reaching 8 yuan/jin. Master Zheng said he now sells more than 50 jin a day, mainly to restaurants and residents holding family banquets, and sales are quite good.

It is understood that during Spring Festival the price of tender broad beans will remain above 8 yuan/jin. After Spring Festival, large quantities of tender broad beans from other places will come onto the market, and only then will prices gradually fall. To buy delicious and inexpensive local tender broad beans, you will have to wait until April or May.
