Gao Qingtian: opened the door to wealth and higher income through specialty breeding

With the continuous development of agriculture in China, more and more farmers are now developing specialty agriculture, growing specialty agricultural products or raising specialty animals to get rich.

Several farming households in Xiping Township, Weishan County, opened the door to wealth and higher income by developing specialty breeding of guinea fowl. It is reported that Xiping Township's environment is suitable for developing the breeding industry. To raise farmers' living standards, the local government encourages farming households to develop specialty breeding to get rich. Gao Qingtian was one of those who responded to the government's call and began raising guinea fowl.

Gao Qingtian told reporters that he began raising guinea fowl in 2010, bought 100 chicks in the first year, and made more than 10,000 yuan in profit that same year. "I used to grow corn, but life was always tight. I kept wanting to switch to something more profitable. It just so happened that the village was encouraging specialty breeding, and the village officials told me guinea fowl are easy to raise, have a high survival rate, are suitable for beginners, and offer very good economic returns, so I decided to give it a try. That year all 100 chicks survived, and because the village helped contact buyers, they were all sold at once."

The success of the first year made Gao Qingtian realize that the guinea fowl market had great potential. He calculated that as long as he could find buyers, raising guinea fowl was almost a sure-profit business, so he decided to go in for large-scale breeding. In 2011, he submitted a business startup application to the village, and together with a small secured loan, he upgraded his guinea fowl farm, expanding the breeding scale from 100 to 2,000 birds. Because guinea fowl have a low fertilization rate through natural mating, he began learning artificial insemination techniques, and he did not encounter any major difficulties during the breeding process. Gao Qingtian realized that after expanding his breeding scale, the biggest problem was how to sell the guinea fowl. He thought of online channels, registered a shop on a professional agricultural products trading website, and looked for customers online.

Now, Gao Qingtian is already a well-known large specialty breeding household in the area, and many farming households come to him for advice on getting rich. He feels that his success is mainly due to choosing a breed that is relatively easy to raise and, at the same time, finding good sales channels.
