Farming partridge chickens "pecks" open the door to prosperity

Xie Yonggang is a Party member in Guangming Village, Duerji Town, Tuquan County. Nearly 60 years old, with a two-person household, little farmland and low family income, he was registered as an impoverished household in 2016. At the time, Xie Yonggang felt very sad. Everyone else farmed and lived well, yet he had to rely on national policies to get by, and he felt he had lost face. He decided to rely on his own ability to change his family's poverty, increase his household income and shake off poverty as soon as possible.

Last year, Guangming Village had a total of 56 registered impoverished households, 139 people in all. To help this special group escape poverty as soon as possible, the village's two committees went out on inspections many times and sought verification from many sides, and explored a "122" prosperity project suited to Guangming Village's development: each household uses its own garden to plant 10 fruit trees, raises 200 partridge chickens under the trees, and generates an income increase of 20,000 yuan. Of this, the 200 partridge chicks and the chicken coops are provided free by the government; the farmers only need to supply some feed and labor, and can make money without leaving home. Each chicken sells for 100 yuan, and after deducting feed costs, each one yields a net profit of about 70 yuan.

Xie Yonggang was the first to sign up and received 200 partridge chickens. He treated these partridge chickens like treasures, consulting experts and looking up books, and raising them carefully. Hard work pays off: the partridge chickens he raised had a low mortality rate and large individual size, and in that very year when they were ready for market he earned 15,000 yuan, taking off the label of poverty. A long-absent smile appeared on Xie Yonggang's face.

By raising partridge chickens, Xie Yonggang walked out of poverty and strode toward prosperity, and he felt delighted inside. He told the reporter: "This year I will continue to raise them one after another, expand the scale of farming, and live a prosperous and happy life as soon as possible."
