A village official in Dongtai, Jiangsu starts a chicken-farming business, leading villagers to get rich together
Two neat rows of houses, more than 20 clean and bright chicken coops, and up to 50,000 chickens at peak times - this is the startup base of Gao Hongxing, a college-graduate village official in Tangyang Town. After graduation, he did not cling to the prosperity of the city, but resolutely devoted himself to the grassroots.
"Cluck cluck cluck, cluck cluck cluck." Recently, when the reporter walked to Gao Hongxing's startup base, from afar came a pleasant sound of calling the chickens to eat. "Look, they're about to start breakfast!" Gao Hongxing said jokingly to the reporter.
Starting a business is not simple when it comes to actual operation. In the initial stage, Gao Hongxing's business idea met strong opposition from his family. His family believed that he had no experience in breeding and that the risk was too great, so his idea was immediately rejected outright by his family. But Gao Hongxing did not want to give up. He learned about the preferential policies for college students starting businesses, and with the help of the Tangyang Town government, he began his path of raising chickens. "At first, my father's opposition really made me think for a long time, but later the concern of leaders at all levels in Tangyang Town, along with their technical support, gave me determination to get going," Gao Hongxing said firmly.
"After the New Year we will bring in more than 40,000 chicks. Our chickens and geese are all free-range and of good breeds, so the market naturally comes to us." Gao Hongxing caught a chicken, turned over its feathers, pointed at its feet, and explained to the reporter.
On Gao Hongxing's desk, the reporter saw a strange chart, densely packed with numbers and crooked lines. He told the reporter that this was a chicken-raising procedure chart. A chicken-raising procedure chart? We have heard of architectural drawings and design drawings, but this was the first time hearing of a chicken-raising procedure chart. Carrying his doubts, the reporter followed Gao Hongxing to the chicken coop. "How much water the chickens here drink, how much feed they eat, including their living environment and how to feed them and how much to feed them, I record all of it one by one so that I can observe them better," Gao Hongxing said with a smile. So this was a unique chicken-raising chart he designed himself to ensure safe, standardized and scientific chicken farming.
Although raising chickens means dealing with chickens, it still requires market research first, then project approval, followed by selecting a site, signing contracts, arranging the farm buildings, contacting customers, purchasing equipment, and scaling up development. Every item was handled personally by Gao Hongxing. On the surface, everything was so orderly and smooth, but every process embodied wisdom and sweat.
"This year we invested several hundred thousand yuan again to purchase a set of automated equipment. It can not only feed automatically and improve work efficiency, but also ensure the temperature and humidity of the chicken coop and handle chicken manure in time to meet environmental protection requirements." As he said this, he led the reporter to the new equipment and said proudly.
Gao Hongxing told the reporter that this year he raised a total of 70,000 chickens and more than 4,000 geese. The chickens were ready for market in October. In addition to raising chickens, he also started planting nursery stock. As he spoke, he pointed ahead to more than 3,000 glossy privet (Ligustrum lucidum) saplings. "Diversified development has become a trend" - this was the sentence Gao Hongxing said most during the interview.
Looking at the chickens about to be ready for market, Gao Hongxing's face was full of joy. Gao Hongxing said: "I want to learn breeding technology well and master it as soon as possible, open up sales channels, and lead the villagers to get rich together."
