Pig-Farming Woman Expert in Hejialiu Village, Fengrun

In every trade, there is a master. Liu Sujuan, a villager from Hejialiu Village, Xinjuntun Town, Fengrun District, through constant exploration and learning, has carved out a path to prosperity through pig farming and become a locally well-known woman expert at getting rich.

In 2002, Liu Sujuan invested 50,000 yuan, contracted 20 mu of abandoned land south of the village, built 2 single-row simple pens, purchased 6 sows and more than 200 pigs, and began her pig-farming journey. Liu Sujuan was eager to learn and bought a large number of pig-farming books for in-depth study and research. Through constant exploration and practice, she mastered techniques such as feed formulation and disease prevention and control, improving her scientific management level.

Under Liu Sujuan's careful management, the pig farm's scale grew steadily: from 2 single-row simple pens to 15 double-row modern pens; from more than 200 pigs to more than 4,000; from initially purchasing pigs for fattening to self-breeding and self-raising. The pig pens not only have exhaust fans and ventilation fans, but are also equipped with automatic temperature control systems and automatic feeding and watering equipment, letting the pigs live a comfortable modern life.

In 2011, Liu Sujuan established the Lvjian Pig Breeding Farmers' Professional Cooperative, providing members with services such as breed improvement, feed formulation, disease prevention and control, and market sales. Today, the cooperative has absorbed more than 100 pig farmers from surrounding villages, achieving the goal of getting rich together and enabling more farming households to embark on the road to prosperity through pig farming. Now, the pig farm employs 15 workers. When recruiting workers, Liu Sujuan gives priority to villagers facing financial hardship.

Liu Sujuan is warm-hearted and always responds to farmers' needs. One evening after 8 p.m., she received a call for help from Xu Jianming of Yueshizhuang Village: “The sow is having a difficult birth, please come and help!” Even though it was snowing at the time, she still rode her motorcycle there. After diagnosis, the sow's narrow birth canal had caused the difficult labor. After disinfecting her hands, Liu Sujuan reached into the sow's birth canal and used a birthing rope to deliver 11 piglets one by one. By the time she finished, it was already midnight.

Liu Sujuan, 39 years old this year, has won titles such as Fengrun District “March 8th Red Banner Pacesetter” and “Double Learning, Double Comparing Woman Expert,” her family was named a “Tangshan City Scientific Development Star Demonstration Family,” and the cooperative she founded was awarded “Tangshan City Outstanding Demonstration Cooperative” and “Hebei Province Science and Technology Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise.”
