Greenhouse strawberries turn red in February, farmers in Fuhai County smile as their incomes grow

On February 20, **Fuhai County welcomed a snowfall, and the county town was covered in heavy snow, but when the reporter walked into the greenhouse of Su Jiayong, a resident of the Liangzhongchang area of Fuhai Town in Fuhai County, a scene full of lush greenery and vitality appeared.
In Su Jiayong's greenhouse, white strawberry blossoms stood out brilliantly under the midday sun. Su Jiayong was pruning strawberry leaves and branches in the greenhouse; the strawberry seedlings were growing vigorously, covered with tempting berries.
"This is a new variety I planted, the 'Hongyan Milk' strawberry. This strawberry has a rich flavor, good taste, and large fruit, and is very popular in the market. It has now entered the fruit-setting stage, and it will be on the market by the end of February," Su Jiayong said while pruning strawberry leaves and branches. He has been growing vegetables in greenhouses for more than ten years. At present, he has 4 greenhouses, about 5 mu of land. As greenhouse planting techniques became more and more mature, not content with the status quo, he began growing off-season fruit in 2012, gradually developing traditional vegetable greenhouses into fruit and vegetable greenhouses, and continuously learning and introducing new planting techniques. In August last year, he introduced the three-dimensional soilless strawberry cultivation technique he had learned from the mainland into his greenhouse. The three-tier three-dimensional strawberry structure made maximum use of the limited greenhouse space and expanded the planting scale.
"In the past, one greenhouse could plant at most 3,000 strawberry plants. Through the use of new technology, now one greenhouse can plant at least 8,000 plants, and the fruit-setting time has been extended," Su Jiayong said.
The fruits and vegetables in Su Jiayong's greenhouse come one crop after another, and the varieties are becoming more and more abundant. While continuously enriching people's vegetable baskets, they are also continuously increasing his income.
"Last year, my off-season strawberries sold for 100 yuan per kilogram, and the returns were pretty good. This year, judging by the growth of the strawberries and the market conditions, the returns will also be very good. Now, the cucumbers and leafy vegetables in the greenhouse are already on the market. In the future, I will continue to grow greenhouse vegetables and fruits to enrich our people's vegetable baskets," Su Jiayong said to the reporter with a smile.
It is understood that in recent years, Fuhai County has combined the development of facility agriculture with increasing farmers' incomes. More than 100 greenhouses have gradually added off-season fruits such as strawberries and grapes to the original vegetable planting, and a base for growing specialty vegetables and fruits has been established, laying the foundation for farmers to increase their incomes and become better off.
