The road to wealth of large-scale grain farmer Zhou Huiyao

On the morning of March 12, Zhou Huiyao, a large-scale grain farmer in Tanglong Village, Chenjiafang Town, Xinshao County, Hunan Province, after arranging for dozens of employees to prepare the early rice seedling fields, hurried to the town's "field school" to listen to experts from the county agriculture bureau explain early rice seedling-raising techniques. "My family has worked the land for generations and has deep feelings for it. Getting rich by farming has been my dream for many years, and now that dream has finally come true. In recent years, I have embarked on the road to wealth by growing grain on a large scale..." Speaking of getting rich through large-scale grain farming, Zhou Huiyao's face showed satisfaction and pride.

Zhou Huiyao said that in recent years, as more and more rural people went out to work, the phenomenon of abandoned and idle land began to appear. Born a farmer, he keenly realized that the state was continuously increasing its support for agriculture, so he came up with the idea of renting land to grow grain on a large scale and using large-scale grain farming to make his fortune.

He acted as soon as he decided. In 2008, he tried renting cultivated land in several local villages, including Simen, Maoping and Liushi, to grow grain. That year, he offered villagers a contract price of 300 yuan per mu and transferred 1080 mu of land to develop large-scale grain cultivation. Thanks to large-scale planting and scientific management, costs were relatively low, and the autumn harvest produced good economic returns.

Speaking of large-scale grain farming, Zhou Huiyao said happily: "Now the state's support for agriculture is growing stronger and stronger, encouraging farmers to establish family farms. My family farm was among the first batch in the county to be successfully registered in 2014." In recent years, his family farm's planting scale has continued to expand. Last year, in addition to transferring 2000 mu in his own village and several surrounding villages such as Simen and Liushi to grow double-season rice, he also transferred 2000 mu in 14 nearby villages in Cushi Town, including Luohuang, Xinqiao and Taishang, to grow grain. This year, his grain-growing scale has expanded to 4500 mu.

Through land transfer and large-scale grain farming, Zhou Huiyao not only succeeded in getting rich himself, but also promoted the great development of the local pillar industry and provided jobs for 100 local villagers, turning them into "industrial workers" who do not leave their land or their hometown. He himself is also rated every year as a county-level "science and technology demonstration household" for farming.

After getting rich through large-scale grain farming, Zhou Huiyao invested most of his funds in expanding production, and his family successively added a large amount of mechanical equipment for sowing, transplanting and harvesting. Driven by him, the town has now seen the emergence of more than 30 large-scale grain-growing households, including Li Xilin, Luo Tongmin, Zhou Mingliang and Liu Dongcheng, and the town's annual double-season rice planting area has exceeded 10000 mu.

"Now the Party's policies benefiting the people are getting better and better. I will work hard to make my family farm stronger and bigger. I plan to expand the grain-growing scale to 8000 mu within three years and lead more farmer friends to get rich together." Speaking of his future plans, Zhou Huiyao was full of confidence!
