Raising Silkie chickens in woodland, farmers in Wenxi find a path to prosperity

On March 27, 2017, farmers Zhao Heqing and Wang Hongxian, a couple from Poli Village, Hedi Town, Wenxi County, were raising Silkie chickens in their own woodland.
In 2015, Zhao Heqing and Wang Hongxian brought back more than 300 Silkie chick seedlings from out of town and began their own ecological farming venture. The two actively explored an ecological farming model, never adding any feed when raising the Silkie chickens, feeding them entirely on green food; although the cost was a little higher, doing business requires honesty and trustworthiness. Because their Silkie chicken farm is built in the woods, far from the village, it neither pollutes the environment and also has fresh air; the Silkie chickens grow up healthily in such a beautiful environment, and the Silkie eggs they lay are green, healthy and nutritious, so consumers feel at ease eating them. This year the two expanded their farming scale to more than a thousand Silkie chickens and set up a cooperative to lead villagers in developing ecological farming, speeding up the pace of shaking off poverty, becoming better off and striving for a moderately prosperous life.
