Sixty-Something Party Member in Liwai Village, Baojing, Hunan Gets Rich Raising Chickens

"This chicken weighs 3 jin 1 liang, 93 yuan, just give me 90." On March 22, at a hotel in Liye Town, Longshan County, Zhang Guide, who is over sixty, was selling chickens.
Zhang Guide is a Party member and a chicken farmer well known near and far in Liwai Village, QingshuiPing Town, Baojing County. In Liwai Village, Zhang Guide is a tough and hardworking man. At present, his chicken-raising base has more than 400 free-range chickens and can harvest more than 50 green-shell eggs every day. Zhang Guide cooperates with some hotels in Liye Town, Longshan County; his free-range chickens sell for 30 yuan per jin, and his eggs sell for 1.5 yuan each.
Raising chickens like this, it would be hard not to get rich.
"Actually, starting a business is not as glamorous as it looks on the surface. From raising funds to disease prevention and vaccination for the chickens to sales, it is all your own responsibility, and one careless step can lead to failure," Zhang Guide recalled.
For Zhang Guide, there is also a heartbreaking episode on his chicken-raising journey.
Last year, Zhang Guide raised more than 4,000 chickens. Unexpectedly, on June 20 of that year, the village suffered an exceptionally severe flood disaster, which washed away his chicken coop and drowned almost all the chickens. Zhang Guide's dream of getting rich thus came to nothing.
During that period, he was heartbroken, yet had no tears to shed.
After the flood receded, Zhang Guide still wanted to raise chickens. Some villagers urged him one after another to give up chicken raising, but he still did not change his original aspiration or let his enthusiasm fade. Afterwards, he borrowed 20,000 yuan, cleared the silt, rebuilt the chicken coop, bought chicks, and began raising chickens again.
"Where you fall down, that is where you stand up." Looking at this batch of chicks bought after the disaster, which have already grown to about 4 jin, Zhang Guide's heart is full of hope.
Zhang Guide said that next he will expand the scale and buy another 5,000 chicks.
Zhang Guide is a Party member, and he does not forget his fellow villagers after getting rich. He actively encourages the targeted poverty-alleviation households in the village to raise chickens together with him. At present, several poor households already have plans to raise chickens.
"I have chicken-raising skills, so I will provide technical guidance for everyone and realize the dream of achieving moderate prosperity together with everyone," Zhang Guide said with a smile.
