Wang Zhifang of Pingquan - the "leading goose" in getting rich through science and technology
"This year, I introduced 50 breeding pigs from the Wanghui Breeding Cooperative in Pingquan County. The cooperative is responsible for providing services such as feed, veterinary drugs and management technology training. At present, more than 300 piglets have been born, and it is expected that 500 commercial pigs will be sent to market in June, with a net income of up to 200,000 yuan. This has really helped me escape poverty and become prosperous!" said Yang Bin, a farmer from Wolong Town.
When the geese fly high, the lead goose leads the way. Wang Zhifang, now 38 years old, is an ordinary farmer from Beiwushijiazi Town, Pingquan County, Hebei Province. After graduating from junior high school, he returned to his hometown to farm, and later went out to work. In 2010, he returned home to start a business and built an edible fungus park covering 200 mu, mainly developing the shiitake mushroom industry. That year, it achieved benefits of more than 2 million yuan and helped villagers realize their "dream of becoming prosperous."
In order to broaden the field of industrial development, in March 2014, Wang Zhifang successively went to Beijing, Langfang and other places for inspections and market research, invested more than 16 million yuan, and founded Chengde Fanghui Breeding Co., Ltd. in Beiwushijiazi Community, Beiwushijiazi Town, Pingquan County. It introduced excellent new Canadian-line Landrace, Large White and Duroc breeding pigs from Beijing Ershang Group. The company covers an area of 45 mu, with total assets of 25 million yuan. After operation, the company's benefits were good, with 15 employees (8 professional and technical personnel) and 9.58 million yuan in fixed assets. In December of the same year, it also established the county's Wanghui Breeding Professional Cooperative, with registered capital of 9 million yuan, built 16 standardized pens with an area of 12,000 sq m, and built feed workshops and other supporting facilities of 3,000 sq m. It introduced 500 Canadian-line purebred Landrace and Large White sows and 8 purebred boars from Beijing Hongmen Ershang Group, and can provide 3,500 high-quality purebred boars, sows and crossbred sows to the outside each year, as well as 6,000 commercial pigs, creating an output value of 5 million yuan. At the same time, it does a good job in providing members with services such as the purchase of feed and veterinary drugs needed for raising pigs, cattle, sheep and chickens, the purchase and sale of finished pigs, and technical consultation.
Industrial development is preceded by science and technology. In order to strengthen the standardization of enterprise technical management, the company insists on taking the development of "ecological characteristic breeding and planting" as its goal, strengthens technical exchanges and cooperation with provincial and municipal colleges, universities and scientific research institutes, adopts the business model of "company + cooperative + base + farmers," and formulates management systems such as the "Feeding Management System," "Nutrition Standard System," "Sanitation and Epidemic Prevention System," "Disinfection System" and "Breeding Plan." Wang Zhifang actively participates in agricultural technology training classes held by the city and county, and improves his business management skills through online learning and consulting technical materials.
"In order to improve the level of scientific and technological management, the company purchased advanced technical equipment such as GBS pig breeding production software, ultrasonic pregnancy diagnostic instruments, backfat measuring instruments and a series of artificial insemination devices. In accordance with the development concepts of large-scale breeding, standardized management, green products, harmless manure and ecological environment, it implements pollution control projects for large-scale pig farms and adopts domestically advanced biogas technology and organic fertilizer production technology, turning manure and sewage from harm into benefit and effectively increasing value," Wang Zhifang said.
In practice, the cooperative actively carries out services around all links before, during and after production, adopts the development concept and business model of self-breeding, self-raising and cooperative + farmers, and has built 8 sow breeding pens, 3 breeding pig pens and 2 office buildings as supporting facilities, reaching the designed production capacity. It improves the degree of organization of members in the whole process of breeding production and effectively solves the production and sales difficulties that individual households find hard to handle. In terms of management, it implements unified technical guidance, technical training, unified procurement, unified epidemic prevention and unified sales, builds an efficient marketing mechanism, and provides marketing support for breeders. At the same time, it actively solves breeders' difficulties in technology, capital and transportation, and provides full-process services for members and breeders.
In 2015, the company had 3,000 pigs on hand, produced about 4.2 tons of manure per day, had sales revenue of 10.73 million yuan, a product sales rate of 100%, an asset-liability ratio of 13%, and a sales profit margin of 17%. Its products were mainly sold to Beijing and other regions, driving more than 200 farmer households and forming a stable interest linkage mechanism with farmers. Up to now, by purchasing local corn, selling piglets and providing breeding technology services, the company has driven farmers to develop planting and breeding industries, driving more than 1,800 farmer households annually and helping poor households escape poverty.
"Next, we will expand the scale of production, build a breeding pig reproduction base, and implement a 'one-stop' service of production-processing-sales, so that people can eat safe meat!" Wang Zhifang said.
No pain, no gain. In June 2016, the Wanghui Breeding Professional Cooperative of Pingquan County won the title of "Key Leading Enterprise in Agricultural Industrialization" of Chengde City and was listed as an experimental teaching base for the cultivation of new-type professional farmers in the county. Wang Zhifang himself also successively won honorary titles such as "Outstanding Communist Party Member" and "Youth Leader in Becoming Prosperous" in the county.
