The road to prosperity of big pig farmer Wang Yunge

Recently, this writer, together with the Hejiang County Employment Bureau of Sichuan Province and the Veterinary Station of Shilu Town, went deep into the "Hejiang County Shilu Pig Breeding Professional Cooperative" and saw standardized, spacious, bright and tidy grounds and pens. In each pen lived piglets, fattened pigs and breeding pigs. Living in their comfortable "home", they ran about happily, as if welcoming guests who had come from afar.

It is understood that Wang Yunge's pig farm is located in Group 1 of Jiangwan Village, Shilu Town. It was completed in 2012, and in 2013 the pig farm was relocated here from its original site in Group 3 of Jiangwan Village. A total of 6 mu of land was requisitioned, and 1.1 million yuan was invested in supporting infrastructure over time, of which 500,000 yuan was industrial support subsidy funds provided by the state. The pig farm has a registered capital of 4 million yuan and currently has more than 700 pigs on hand, with three breeds: Yorkshire, Landrace and Duroc. One third of them are piglets, and the rest are breeding pigs and fattened pigs. The sale of piglets brings in more than 800 yuan per head, and fattened pigs bring in more than 2,000 yuan per head. Each fattening pig weighs about 150 kg. Adding the income from piglets bred and sold successively throughout the year, the annual output value is about 1.3 million yuan, and the annual profit is more than 300,000 yuan. Wang Yunge has no worries about sales for his pigs, which are sold on a fixed basis to slaughterhouses in Chongqing, Luzhou and Hejiang, and the momentum for further development is strong.

It is understood that at present Wang Yunge's pig farm has relatively low costs and few management personnel. Only the owner Wang Yunge and his wife Xie Xiaobing run and manage it. The two are both farm managers and also salespeople, veterinarians, drivers and administrators. His wife is mainly responsible for feeding and internal affairs. Piglets are bred from the farm's breeding pigs. Each bag of pig manure sells for 15 yuan (packed in feed woven bags) and is sold to nearby grain farmers, vegetable growers and fruit growers, with demand exceeding supply. This reduces pig-raising costs to the greatest extent and expands profit margins.

In fact, Wang Yunge's entrepreneurial journey was not easy either. He is 48 years old this year. In 2005, after careful consideration, he chose the breeding industry and built a large-scale pig farm in the village. Unwilling to remain mediocre, he wanted to expand the scale and increase income, but was restricted because the site could not be expanded, and he was also troubled by insufficient funds for relocating the farm, so he could not realize his wish for a time. In 2012, with the encouragement and support of the local government, he obtained 500,000 yuan in state industrial development support project funds. The local government and village committee coordinated land, enabling the smooth completion of the newly sited pig farm located on Douli Mountain in Group 3 of the village, and it was relocated and put into production as scheduled in 2013. It is understood that in earlier years, when pig prices were once at a low point, Wang Yunge's pig farm still did not give up. He followed the laws of the market economy, responded calmly and managed scientifically, and only thus achieved today's abundant results.

Not only that, in conversation with Wang Yunge, this writer learned that this unremarkable entrepreneur is not satisfied with the status quo. In the future he plans to change his production and operation model in three aspects. First, in production methods: adopt the company plus farmers model, an integrated production, supply and marketing "one-stop" operation model and a "four unifications" operation model, namely: unified provision of piglets, unified technical guidance, unified epidemic prevention and treatment, and unified organization of sales, and provide cooperative members with piglets at below-market prices, feed and veterinary drugs at direct production prices, free technical guidance, and purchase members' fattened pigs at above-market prices. Second, in improving pig breeds and quality: raise local pigs and black pigs to produce commercial pigs that consumers like, have relatively high economic value and sell well on the market. Third, in marketing: connect with surrounding cities such as Chongqing, Chishui in Guizhou, Luzhou and Hejiang for direct sales, sign sales contracts, sell in batches on schedule, at fixed points and in fixed quantities while ensuring quality, and keep sales channels open. Wang Yunge is determined to expand the market, look to surrounding cities, update his concepts, and make the pig industry form a certain scale to lead the masses to prosperity.
