Bringing technology to the countryside must play the "innovation card" well

Activities that bring technology to the countryside deliver the science and technology farmers urgently need to greenhouses and to the fields, helping farmers solve many technical problems encountered in production and operation, and they are deeply welcomed by farmers. However, in some places, in the process of bringing technology to the countryside, both form and content still follow the same old routine with no change, and there is a relative lack of training in various marketing skills for farmers and the various skills farmers need for working away from home. In my view, to make bringing technology to the countryside play the "innovation card" well, efforts should be made in the following areas.

First, content must be innovative. In some places, the technologies brought to the countryside are always the same few projects, and the experts are always the same few faces; over time, such technology-to-the-countryside activities will lose their appeal. If bringing technology to the countryside is to deliver real benefits to farmers, it must innovate in content. Scientific and technical personnel should be organized to go to the countryside regularly for research, promptly grasp and understand farmers' technical needs in the production process, and especially during important farming seasons, professional teams should be organized to "diagnose and prescribe remedies" for the new situations and new problems farmers encounter, truly delivering the most practical and most effective technology to farmers, for only then will it be more attractive to them.

Second, the mode of activity must be innovative. In the past, whether broadly carrying out rural science and technology services and science popularization activities, or carrying out activities such as science popularization caravans and mobile science and technology museums at the grassroots level, bringing technology to the countryside may have focused only on "delivering" while lacking interaction with farmers, and this made the effect on raising farmers' scientific and technological awareness, ability to become prosperous, and scientific literacy less obvious. Therefore, attention must be paid to interaction between farmers and technical personnel, truly changing knowledge and skills from "delivering" to "planting," and making technology-to-the-countryside activities institutionalized, regularized, and branded.

Finally, the choice of timing for going to the countryside must also be innovative. The purpose of bringing technology to the countryside is to better benefit farmers and help them truly close the distance with experts. Therefore, advantage should be taken of the opportunity when large numbers of migrant workers return home and of the slack farming seasons, delivering not only during the day but also at night; only then can such technology-to-the-countryside activities truly play their role.

In short, bringing technology to the countryside should not only deliver money and goods, but also deliver policies that benefit farmers, golden ideas, information on becoming prosperous, knowledge, and technology, and even more, it should deliver innovation; only in this way can farmers walk their road to prosperity with more "confidence."
