Agricultural development requires focusing on both production and branding
Public opinion observation
Event
On the 19th, in Huanpi Village, Longtian Town, Xingning City, Meizhou, the yield measurement and acceptance team of the "South China double-season super rice annual yield of 3000 jin per mu full-process mechanized green and efficient model research" project announced after yield measurement: the project's annual yield per mu reached 1537.78 kg. The experimental project was successful and set a new world record for the annual yield per mu of double-season rice.
Analysis: After the event occurred, it quickly became a hot topic of public opinion. Southern Public Opinion Monitoring found that within the analysis time range from November 19 to 21, there were a total of 1217 related public opinion pieces. On the 19th, public opinion began to spread on sites such as Xinhua News Agency, Nanfang Net, Guangming Net, and Meizhou Net. The next day, reports by China News Service, People's Daily Online, Southern Daily, Guangzhou Daily and other media triggered another wave. In addition, the number of reposts on Sina Weibo reached a peak of 1663.
Food is the first necessity of the people. At present, grain production faces the challenges of multiple unfavorable factors such as tight resources, rising costs, and prices approaching the "ceiling." How to further achieve high grain yields has become a major issue. In the reports, the combination of Yuan Longping, 3000 jin per mu, and world record immediately attracted strong outside attention.
This shows the public's concern for food security and also shows people's emphasis on technology transforming production methods. In recent years, the large-scale promotion of various cost-saving and efficiency-enhancing technologies has greatly improved grain production capacity. For example, the application of integrated pest and disease control technology can save pesticide costs and labor costs, and can also reduce environmental pollution. In these projects in Meizhou, the adoption of "super rice strong source active sink high-quality rice technology, pot seedling mechanical transplanting, mechanized green prevention and control of pests and diseases" technology is precisely a full-process mechanized green super-high-yield and high-efficiency model combining good seeds, good methods, and good machinery.
"Revitalizing agriculture through science and technology, good seeds come first." The super rice planted in Meizhou, which set the world record for double-season rice, profoundly reflects the role of science and technology in promoting grain yield increases. At present, science and technology are providing ever greater support for grain production, and the increase in grain output per unit area is the ultimate manifestation of scientific and technological innovation achievements. This is because the requirement for food security is not merely one-sided pursuit of increased output, but rather improving quality and quantity through scientific and technological innovation in grain production.
In recent years, Meizhou has implemented the food security development strategy of "storing grain in the land and storing grain in technology." Meizhou has always consistently placed food security work in an important position, taking "stabilizing production capacity, adjusting structure, transforming methods, and increasing benefits" as the main direction, striving to improve planting quality and efficiency and consolidate the foundation of grain production. At present, Meizhou City has 3 major grain-producing counties in Guangdong Province, producing more than 1.2 million tons of grain mainly consisting of rice each year, ranking among the top three in the province.
However, it cannot be denied that there are still conditions such as scattered grain production, small scale, weak brands, and insufficient competitiveness. Most grain brand enterprises in Meizhou lack the ability to "go global," and brand building lags behind grain production capacity. From the perspective of the industrial chain, enterprise research and development, technological achievements and brands, marketing networks, and operational capabilities often occupy the "high end," while frontline agricultural production, because its added value is the lowest, often remains at the low end of the industrial chain.
The inspiration of this theory for Meizhou is that it is necessary to focus on both grain production and grain branding. Therefore, transforming the potential for increasing grain output into actual production capacity requires breakthroughs in major scientific and technological achievements, major technology integration, and major project investment, shoring up the "shortcomings" of agricultural development, and at the same time building Meizhou's rice brand.
In recent years, the agricultural department of Meizhou City has been problem-oriented and, by establishing the Meizhou Kedu Rice Association, has improved the organizational level of the grain industry. A new six-in-one operating system of "rice association, enterprises, cooperatives, family farms, large growers, and ordinary farmers" has been gradually established and improved. Southern Public Opinion believes that at present, the Rice Association has 11 provincial-level key leading enterprises, and brands such as "Hakka Simiao Rice" have won the honor of "Guangdong Famous Rice." These achievements are certainly encouraging, but for Meizhou, a major agricultural city, it still needs to continue working hard and make further progress.
