Pig farming brings Shen Ping an annual income of one million yuan
In Yangmulizi Town, Qinghe District, Tieling City, there is an ordinary rural woman. She has a dream of becoming wealthy and keeps starting businesses. With the concept of circular economy, she has gone further and further on the road to prosperity through farming and has driven the development of an entire local industry. She has been named a March 8th Red Banner Pacesetter and a Woman Expert in Becoming Wealthy through Science and Technology in Yangmu Town many times, and in 2007 she was elected a deputy to the Qinghe District People's Congress. She is Shen Ping, a pig-farming expert.
"Everyone has their own dream and will pursue it tirelessly and work hard to realize it. Opportunities are also reserved for those who are prepared. As long as we can keep going unswervingly, success will be achieved." This is what Shen Ping summed up through long-term practice in rural areas.
Pursuing the dream and striving, founding a farm
Shen Ping is from Beidagou Village, Yangmulizi Town, Qinghe District, Tieling City. In 2000, she found that some free-range rural households had slaughtered their sows because raising pigs was not profitable, which gradually reduced the number of sows at the time, left few commercial pigs in stock, and kept pushing pork prices up. Shen Ping therefore saw good prospects in the pig market, and she and her husband visited large pig farms for inspections. Shen Ping's home is in Guojiabaozi Tun, Beidagou Village, and the spacious factory building only 1.5 km from the provincial road Yangqian Line became a favorable condition for farming. With strong support from the village two committees and the town government, Shen Ping used her family's property certificate and other means to borrow 50,000 yuan and built a 300 sq m pig house, embarking on the road to prosperity through self-breeding and self-raising and achieving snowballing development.
"In order to put the pig farm into production earlier, sometimes we had to work until two or three in the morning before sleeping," Shen Ping said. To make feeding management more refined, she strictly followed scientific formula standards to prepare the pigs' diet, feeding them fixed amounts at fixed times according to their age in months and physical strength. Every time she fed them, she carefully observed each pig's eating situation and mental state. For pigs in poor spirits, she would touch the base of their ears with her hand to sense their body temperature, carefully observe changes in their manure, and prevent and treat pig diseases early. Shen Ping said: "In order to give the pigs a good growing environment, I installed cooling pads, hot-air stoves, fans and other temperature- and humidity-control equipment in the pig house."
In farming practice, Shen Ping accumulated a lot of experience and could arrange production according to market changes. When the market was sluggish and pig prices were low, she quickly eliminated old breeds and old herds, introduced high-quality breeds, increased the sales volume of piglets, and reduced the number of fattening pigs raised. When market prices rose, Shen Ping increased the number of fattening pigs raised, reduced the sales volume of piglets, and avoided market risks to the greatest extent. At the same time, scientific feeding, shortening the breeding cycle, and increasing the slaughter rate also minimized breeding costs and improved economic benefits.
Standardized farming, driving villagers to prosper together
After 17 years of hard work, Shen Ping has now become a wealthy household with millions in assets. In 2017, her pig house was expanded to 3000 sq m, with a 150 sq m feed room, and it was equipped with nursery rooms, gestation rooms, farrowing rooms, farrowing crates, temperature control, disinfection, manure treatment and other infrastructure, reaching modern farming conditions and becoming a high-standard, standardized farm. Now, Shen Ping's farm has 200 sows in stock, markets more than 3000 fattening pigs a year and more than 1500 piglets a year, with an annual net income of two million yuan.
"I registered and established the Junping Pig Farming Professional Cooperative, and it now has 150 members, enabling unified purchase of piglets, unified supply of feed, unified technical services, unified sales and other business operations," Shen Ping said.
As a rural Party member, she did not forget the villagers after becoming wealthy. Under her leadership, Yangmu Town has 300 pig-farming households and has established 5 pig-farming cooperatives. The Tengyue Co., Ltd. that Shen Ping founded herself also provides long-term services to farmers such as technical consulting, buying and selling negotiations, and centralized feed supply, helping many villagers escape poverty and become wealthy. "Now that I am rich myself, the first people I should think of are those around me. Seeing everyone now striving toward moderate prosperity through farming, I am happy from the bottom of my heart," Shen Ping said.
