Village Official Cultivates Mushrooms to Lead Villagers to Shared Prosperity

In the photo, taken on May 2, Fan Yang inoculates mushroom bags in a sterile inoculation room.
Fan Yang, 24 years old this year, became a college-graduate village official in Nieyun Community, Gushan Town, Jingjiang City, Jiangsu, after graduating from university in 2016. Fan Yang actively responded to the call for college-graduate village officials to start businesses, and drawing on his university expertise in biological science, he and several other university graduates began cultivating edible fungi such as lion's mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) and oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus). Using electric constant-temperature equipment, a sterile inoculation room, and an electrically heated sterilization pot, they explored factory-style cultivation methods.
At present, the cultivation base, still in its early startup stage, has a 200 sq m workroom and 3 greenhouses, producing about 150 jin of mushrooms per day. Fan Yang and his companions next plan to actively open up sales channels, and when the time is right, expand the scale of production and establish a cooperative to help villagers increase their incomes and become prosperous together.
