Name: Wang Long

Age: 40

Organization: Shehong County Chuanyu Breeding Professional Cooperative

Honor: Sichuan Province Returning-Home Entrepreneurship Star

At the Shehong County Chuanyu Breeding Professional Cooperative in Group 15, Wenbai Village, Wanlin Township, Shehong County, a flock of African geese leisurely splash in the water and forage on the shore. Wang Long, the breeder, stands by the water watching the geese, a satisfied smile on his face. Giving up a high salary to come home and raise geese, this path has indeed proved to be the right one.

In 2014, Wang Long gave up his job as a chef with a monthly salary of nearly 10,000 yuan and returned to his hometown to start a business.

"My bond with geese actually came about because of my work as a chef." Wang Long began working as a chef in 1995 and achieved a certain level of success in the culinary field. Wang Long told reporters that after drifting away from home for so long, he missed home very much and wanted to personally teach his children well, so he did not feel it was a pity to give up a job with a monthly salary of nearly 10,000 yuan.

When Wang Long worked as a chef away from home, he became friends with a goose supplier and learned breeding techniques from the supplier. Because geese have extremely high nutritional value and a certain market value, he decided to bring geese back to his hometown to raise, and took out all his savings of nearly 500,000 yuan to invest in goose breeding.

Today, Wang Long has several thousand geese in stock. Every day he shuttles between the county town and the breeding farm, delivering goose eggs and goose meat. Many times the goose product line is in short supply.

"Now I can say I have succeeded, and my efforts have not been wasted." A full-grown goose weighs more than 5 jin when ready for market, and is sold at 30 yuan per jin, so one African goose sells for more than 150 yuan, and the profit is quite considerable. Wang Long's products are also sold to Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan and other places.

At the end of June 2014, Wang Long established the Shehong County Chuanyu Breeding Professional Cooperative. The cooperative employs 8 local villager households on a long-term basis, helping them increase their income. Wang Long said that raising geese now brings him nearly 200,000 yuan in income each year, and he can say he has successfully paved the way in goose farming, so he very much wants to lead his fellow villagers to prosperity together. He encourages impoverished households and disabled people in the village to join the ranks of goose farming. He will provide breeding stock free of charge, teach goose breeding techniques, and buy back the geese at a guaranteed minimum price. At the same time, he also plans to develop eco-tourism, farmhouse restaurants and other projects to prosper together with his fellow villagers.
