Raising chickens under the forest fulfills the dream of prosperity

On the morning of May 16, the reporter came to the under-forest chicken-raising base in Meishan Village, Duowen Town. At the chicken farm, flocks of fluffy chicks could be seen foraging and chasing one another freely, with loud crowing heard from time to time. According to the person in charge of the chicken farm, this batch of chickens is raised by free-range methods, and after a while longer they can be released from the pens to be raised under the forest.

Meishan Village is a designated assistance village of the Provincial Geological Bureau. In order to solidly advance targeted poverty alleviation and help poor households shake off poverty as soon as possible, the responsible unit, taking into account the actual conditions of Meishan Village and adapting measures to local conditions, found that Meishan Village has abundant forestry resources and is relatively suitable for developing an under-forest chicken-raising project. Therefore, the Provincial Geological Bureau guided and organized poor households to establish the Lingao Duowen Meishan Breeding and Farming Professional Cooperative in Meishan Village to develop the under-forest chicken-raising project, and at the same time, through the method of contributing funds and labor as shares, incorporated the poor households of the Meishan Village Committee into the cooperative for breeding.

"Through active guidance and support, the Duowen Meishan Breeding and Farming Professional Cooperative adopts the 'company + poor households' model, developing the under-forest chicken-raising industry through poor households contributing funds as shares and assistance from the Provincial Geological Bureau. The Provincial Geological Bureau concentrates forest land, provides chicks and feed, and unifies feeding, unifies technology, and unifies management, and also solves the problem of market sales of meat chickens, achieving maximum benefits and profits," introduced a staff member of the Provincial Geological Bureau, saying that in this way not only are the market risks of farmers raising chickens effectively reduced, but also the increase in income from raising chickens is guaranteed.

In addition, the cooperative also hires poor households participating in the cooperative's chicken raising to raise and manage the chickens, so that they not only have income from holding shares in chicken raising, but also have their employment problem solved, thereby achieving nearby employment.

It is understood that Meishan Village plans to raise 20,000 chickens this year. The first batch of 5,500 chicks has already been put into breeding, with 576,000 yuan invested, and the breeding of the second and third batches of chicks is already in the planning stage.

"The Provincial Geological Bureau organizing and guiding the establishment of the cooperative is meant to drive us out of poverty. Jointly developing the native chicken-raising industry will certainly help us shake off poverty and become prosperous, and let us live a good life," the villagers of Meishan Village said one after another, full of confidence.
